This is an excellent horror film, I've only seen it a couple of times on t.v and have been looking for it everywhere.
A genuinely creepy atmos, particularly the moving tree and the Penny Farthing story with the picture on the wall changing expression and compelling the chappie who inherited it to get on the Penny Farthing; he then goes back in time and things get very weird indeed!
I notice some people have rubbished this film, however, I don't agree! It's just as good as other anthology films I have bought, including The House That Dripped Blood, Tales From The Crypt, From Beyond The Grave, Dr. Terror's House Of Horrors, The Monster Club etc.
I love anthology horror films, and this is definately one to buy, if you don't find this creepy, I would be very surprised!

Being a big fan of the Amicus releases, this had to be added to the collection. It isn't an Amicus release but is very much in the same vein and follows the same format. The stories are camp (check out the tree!) but the film is actually better than the likes of 'Dr Terror's House of Horrors'.
It's a worthy addition to your collection and one you will enjoy watching :)

Dr Tremayne(Donald Pleasence)has astounding new data concerning the reason for insanity in the human race. He is visited by his colleague Dr Nicholas(Jack Hawkins) and proceeds to offer four case studies as evidence of his theories.
The first concerns a young boy Paul who has invented an 'imaginary friend' whilst his parents ignore him and argue with eachother. His mother becomes concerned when Paul tells her that this friend is a tiger, and starts to leave huge bones under his bed for it to eat. Then she notices claw marks on the bedroom door. The second story is about a man who inherits an old Pennt Farthing and a portrait of his Uncle Albert. Strange things start to happen as the portait of his uncle starts to exert an influence on him, forcing him to ride the bicycle back in time where he becomes his ancestor. The third story concerns a menage-a-tree when Brian Thompson(Michael Jayston)brings back a rather shapely tree stump into the happy household, much to the chagrin of his wife Bella(Joan Collins). The tree isnt that happy either! The fourth and final story concerns a woman called Auriol(Kim Novak) who welcomes two important Polynesian clients to her home, taking a fancy to the writer Kimo(Michael Petrovitch). However he's more interested in the younger flesh of Auriol's teenage daughter Virginia(Mary Tamm)
The framing story is rather feeble for a British Anthology film, and the tales all differ in quality. The first two are very underwhelming and predictable, but the third story is a wonderfully campy treat and the fourth a suitably gory affair(though I bet it didnt go down well with the Polynesian Tourist Board!). The main problem is that Amicus films were far more adept at making this kind of film, and Tales That Witness Madness is always going to suffer by comparison.

Olive films have unearthed a sharp clear print with vibrant colours to match. An interesting collection of four stories with wrap arounds by Donald Pleasence and Jack Hawkins. I won't spoil any of the plots suffice to say the leading ladies were well chosen - Joan Collins,
Mary Tamm, Suzy Kendall and Kim Novak.

Bought for a friend's birthday as he loves a bit of Retro filmage. This has Joan Collins in it - so it was as if the film was made for him! I remember this film of four short horror stories from over twenty years ago. Not seen it on TV since, but it stayed with me all these years. The best one is the one about the Penny Farthing. This is schlock horror at it's camp best. And my friend loved it! So that in itself gives this item five stars!

Brilliant to now have this on DVD! I have this on VHS, and it's one of those portmanteau collections of horror-gothic tales that were fashionable in the 1960s and 1970s. My favourite tale is the third one, with Joan Collins, whose husband falls in love with a malevolent anthropoid-looking tree called 'Mel' and who Joan Collins becomes very jealous of, resulting in dire consequences!! Creepy and fun at the same time.
