At Grandma's funeral Dick Kelly (Robert De Niro) asks his grandson Jason (Zac Efron) to drive him to Florida from Atlanta. Jason hesitates as he is a corporate lawyer and is getting married to Meridith (Julianne Hough) in a couple of weeks. Straight laced Jason discovers his Grandpa has a few vices along the way as circumstances takes them to Daytona during Spring Break with an old college friend (Zoey Deutch) and her girlfriend (Aubrey Plaza) who has the hots for Grandpa.

The film digresses from a unique crudely hilarious film into a Hollywood formula romance as the humor tapers off with stale gags. Aubrey Plaza was better than Viagra in her role. The film makes fun off societal norms in favor of the drug filled, save the planet and party bunch...but then that is to be expected. Funnier than most teen sex comedies minus all the gratuitous nudity.

Guide: Plenty of swearing. Brief sex. Very brief nudity.

A decent effort - not really in the same league as Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa [DVD] or Last Vegas [DVD] [2013] but stillworth a watch.

Good points - De Niro is in top form, and as is often the case, is playing his character so well it seems effortless. Some very funny dialogue - I LOLd during this a lot more than most of the other comedies I've seen lately.

Not so good - there are some fairly serious holes in the plot, and the ending seems forced when it didn't need to be.

A truely awful attempt at a foul mouthed, gross out humour, road trip movie.

De Niro seems to as most others have pointed out take paychecks and run these days, whilst completly destroying the memory of his decent films.

Here the filthy Grandfather tasks Zach Efron (whose not bad here) a straight laced youngster (read boring) on taking him on a spring break road trip to literally score with hot young women. That's the whole premise, an old man wants to get laid, of course they get into many a scrape along the way, with supposedly funny results.

None of the cast are likable, the script is far fetched (granted its a silly film, but in order to invest in some form of appreciation there has to surely be a small amount of believability), the gags are just crude, racist or homophobic and the most important thing for a film like this is missing, one word, Charm.

Films of this foul mouthed, crazy ilk, like Hangover, or American Pie movies worked because they were balanced, they had the filthy jokes, the shock comedy, but had good scripts, likeable characters and some form of believabfunny, more importantly they were funny, this is forced humour and embarrassing.

Dirty Grandpa is shockingly bad.

I recently saw this film and didn't stop laughing all the way though! Humour similar to the Hangover films.
If you want to see one of the funniest films out there presently i throughly recommend it!
