Previously available as an uncut, but cropped 4:3 full frame print from Vipco and then Cornerstone Media on region 2 (UK & Europe), or a cut 1.85:1 widescreen version as a region 1 (USA) import. This version is both widescreen and uncut. I own every Hammer, Amicus (which this is), Tyburn, Tigon, Anglo-Amalgamated & AIP classic era horror DVD available. In my opinion it is about average in terms of quality as one of the "portmanteau" films produced by Amicus. It is the goryest, however. Snap it up, because the previous version released was deleted in a ridiculously short period of time.

The penultimate Amicus portmanteau film, and possibly the very weakest, The Vault of Horror (1973) is distinctly mild stuff even by the usual standards of producer-screenwriter Milton Subotsky. Directed by Roy Ward Baker (Quatermass and the Pit) and inspired by stories from EC Comics, it feels more like a heavily condensed selection of (sub-par) episodes from Roald Dahl’s Tales of the Unexpected than a cinema-worthy horror movie.
Five men find themselves in a plushly appointed lounge in the basement of a London office building and, on no real pretext, describe the weird dreams that re-occur to each of them, seemingly warning about their impending doom. Daniel Massey plays a conniving ne'er-do-well who knifes his sister (real-life sister Anna) to get at an inheritance but then gets a nasty shock when he discovers she was part of a vampire community; Terry-Thomas is a fussy businessman whose chronic OCD leads his wife Glynis Johns to bash his head in; Curt Jurgens’ magician tries to steal an Indian rope trick and gets strung up for his trouble; Michael Craig fakes his own death as part of an insurance scam only for bovine gravedigger Arthur Mullard to kill him with a spade to the face; and artist Tom Baker uses voodoo to get vengeance on a slippery trio who have ripped him off.
