Product Description

Product Description

Emerging at the peak of the giallo boom of the early 70s, Luciano Ercoli s Death Walks films are two superlative examples of the genre linked by their shared casting of the stunning Nieves Navarro (billed under her adopted stage name of Susan Scott) as the lead woman in peril.

In Death Walks on High Heels (1971), exotic dancer Nicole (Navarro), the daughter of a murdered jewel thief, finds herself terrorised by a black-clad assailant determined on procuring her father s stolen gems. Fleeing Paris and her knife-wielding pursuer, Nicole arrives in London only to discover that death stalks her at every corner.

Returning in Death Walks at Midnight (1972), Navarro stars as Valentina a model who, in the midst of a drug-fuelled photoshoot, witnesses a brutal murder in the apartment opposite hers. But when it becomes clear that the savage slaying she describes relates to a crime that took place six months earlier, the police are at a loss - forcing Valentina to solve the mystery alone.

Offering up all the glamour, perversity and narrative twists and turns that are typical of the giallo genre at its best, Luciano Ercoli s Death Walks on High Heels and Death Walks at Midnight anticipate the super-stylized trappings of Brian De Palma s early psycho thrillers (most notably, Dressed to Kill).

Death Walks on High Heels (1971) / Death Walks at Midnight (1972) Limited Edition boxed-set (3000 copies)

Arrow continue to show their commitment to Italian Giallo films with the release of this double dose of Euro terror and presented as a box set under the title of Death Walks Twice: Two Films by Luciano Ercoli. Arrow presents a four disc (dual format Blu-ray and DVD) set of two classic features including Death Walks on High Heels (1971) and Death Walks at Midnight (1972).

Ercoli made good use of these Italian/Spanish co-productions by utilising most of the same cast and crew. Both films were ideal for the stunning Spanish born Nieves Navarro (appearing as Susan Scott) who was married to director Ercoli. In Death Walks on High Heels she appears as an erotic nightclub dancer Nicole Rochard, who is stalked and assaulted by a killer in a ski mask with bright blue eyes. Nicole has become a target due to some missing diamonds, after the death of her father, an apparent diamond thief. Nicole’s boyfriend Michel (Simon Andreu) soon becomes a suspect when Blue contact lenses are discovered in their shared home. Nicole decides to leave, and with the help of nightclub owner Dr. Robert Matthews (Frank Wolff), takes her to his home in the English countryside. Nicole arrives only to find she has not escaped her pursuer and a number of murders soon follow.

Death Walks at Midnight features Scott as fashion model Valentina. She agrees to help her journalist boyfriend Giò Baldi (Simón Andreu) by taking an experimental drug (presumed to be LSD) with the understanding that her identity will remain anonymous. It is during her ‘trip’ that Valentina sees a strange man brutally bludgeon a woman to death with a spiked gauntlet.
