Format: DVD
"The pack" is a low-budget thriller from Australia about a family on their farm who are besieged one night by dogs. It has proper actors, a proper script and very high quality cinematography.

----------spoilers---------

The Wilson family live on a sheep farm in a rather beautiful pastural wooded area of Australia. Unfortunately, things are not going too well financially, with the unsympathetic bank manager threatening to foreclose on the property. There is a radio report of an elderly couple who have been found dead in their barn, presumed to be the victims of a dog attack. Later that night, the dogs appear at their home.......

The acting all round (no overacting here) is good, with that great low-key feel and the family is very believable as a unit. Also, the "quality" of the picture and cinematography is very high, as often seems to be the way with Australian films, even the low budget ones. There are even a few nicely tense moments and a "jump scare", or two. Literally.

I enjoyed it and the only reason I don't give it a higher score is because, rightly or wrongly, I just couldn't quite fully buy into the central idea of this experienced, sensible sheep farmer (with his high powered telescopic rifle) and his clever, capable wife and kids, being this completely terrorised by dogs.

At the end, the Wilson family "pack" are stronger than before and the bank manager has been eaten, which should give them a bit of breathing space with that foreclosure thing, so it's not all bad for them. Even "Ollie" the family dog survives.

It is very well made and definitely worth a look, particularly if you have a fear of dogs.

I wasn't sure what to expect as I hadn't heard of any of the actors but this film is well worth a look. OK so it's not Oscar winning material but I've seen quite a few bad movies lately and this made up for those. I watched the trailer first so thought I knew what all the good parts would be - usually the best parts of a movie are in the trailer to get you to watch it. I knew when certain things were going to happen and I still jumped out of my skin. I have got several of these types of movie in my collection and I think this is right up there with those using famous actors. If you want to nit pick this movie there are a few times when you think "Why did they do that" but these do not lessen the movie in any way.

***** Spoilers *****

Why, when they are trying to avoid the dogs, do they shine torches letting the dogs know exactly where they are?
Why didn't the cop drive his car up to the house instead of stopping a couple of hundred yards away?
Why turn on the fluorescent lighting in the barn/vet hospital when it is like a beacon, particularly as it is flashing on and off?

There I go - nit picking - but the lighting/torches made it more atmospheric. You wondered what was going to be picked up in the torchlight as it moved around and how close it would be.

Just one more spoiler - don't worry about the family's pet dog.

All in all this was a good evening's viewing and I look forward to seeing more movies with these actors.

W,howl,I like this.A horror with "guts"and a story.Believable story because its well done. Not a cheapy, but its amazing how just eyes in the trees and shadows of dogs can give you the heebeejeebies.I watched this not expecting too much and was pleasantly surprised.Short discription,Family living in the wilderness of Australia suddenly find themselves hunted by a pack of dogs. This is no "Cujo",No wagging tails and doggy dribble, black hounds of the night(and day).Mother,Dad,Son and Daughter find their sheep mauled and things start to go from there. Its almost "Hitchcockian" with moments of edge of your seat FRIGHTS when the hounds get into the house.Spooky shadows keep you glued.Im not spoiling the story but I think this was great. The attacks are especially well done. You feel the "PACK" are really naughty pooches.Great stuff.

I did enjoy it, but you can't help but wonder, they are in a farmhouse. Ok well shutting the doors would be sensible. To the best of my knowledge dogs aren't good with door knobs. Having said that it's not a bad film

Seeing as this film was from the producers of black water and the reef I thought it would be worth watching but nope it wasn't, It lacked story and scares. Waste of money.
