Ninjas... Ninjas... and more Ninjas!

SYNOPSIS

The wild world of Cannon Films rarely became more delirious or influential than this trio of rollicking, crazed action classics. Beginning with Enter the Ninja, they spearheaded a craze for the titular martial-arts assassin that spiralled throughout the decade and beyond, but this eccentric trilogy still stands alone.

Enter the Ninja (featuring Franco Nero and Susan George) deals with a couple on oil-rich land in the Philippines under siege from a ruthless industrialist. Revenge of the Ninja moves to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Cho and his son Kane begin a new life after their family is killed in Japan. After opening a doll shop, a criminal betrayal leads to an almighty showdown. Ninja III: The Domination unleashes the tale of an aerobics instructor possessed by an evil ninja's spirit to gain revenge from beyond the grave.

Featuring the iconic Sho Kosugi in all three films, Eureka Classics is proud to present these jaw-dropping 80s video-shop staples in a new Dual-Format special edition collection.

SPECIAL FEATURES including:

  • High-definition presentations of all three films
  • Commentaries, interviews and trailers
  • English subtitles for the deaf and hearing-impaired
  • Plus: A booklet featuring new writing and archival imagery

So this review of EUREKA release in G.B.first surprise is this is a 5 disc set, with each film getting own disc on DVD but first 2 films squeezed onto 1 blu ray.Have watched each of DVDs so far.Only knew the first film which is a quality print & dynamic sound, from the opening soundtrack(how many types of percussion can you hear).Only Sho Kosugi & few good stunt men for opening & closing fights in each film are class.First film is old school plot of property developer wanting to buy someone off,so a good job his old army pal is now a ninja(Franco Nero) and saves the day even saying "I'll be back"at the end to Susan George. Sadly he wasn't, instead Mr.Kosugi took the lead in 2nd where after his family is wiped out in home country he moves to America,to face hoods/gangs and assorted heavies. This is the "martial arts porn" of the 3 with lots of deaths by assorted ninja weapons.(but tame compared to Baby Cart series) final film is lead by Lucinda Dickey whom had starred in "Breakdance" movies for producers Golam Globus so they miscast her in this clash of the genres.(at least that's what the booklet said, but another surprise, according to the directors commentary she did this film first, then went onto Breakdance, which had a quicker turnaround and got released before NINJA 3).A dark ninja kills his target in beginning but is trapped & killed by the police(after offing 30 or so of them) except he is able to pass his spirit on to our lead character whom is then possessed to kill off the remaining police. But along the way we get 80's disco/aerobics/poltergeist activities before an underused Mr.Kosugi saves the day. - apart from a booklet & commentaries on final 2 films extra's are sparse. Hopefully we might get a Cynthia Rockrock boxset, a real martial artist whose output is now criminally neglected.

Eighties Ninja triple bill Action goodness from the Golan Globus Go Go Boys at Cannon. Sho Kosugi slices & dices with more than a splattering of ketchup & a whole healthy heaping of tongue in cheek entertainment. Amazing to have Enter The Ninja / Revenge Of The Ninja / Ninja III The Domination all mastered in HD to Blu-ray. The set also comes with the films on DVD. Great stuff.
