Product Description

Product Description

With a cast featuring British film icons Dennis Price, Ian Carmichael and Cecil Parker, screenplay and direction by Anthony Kimmins and a score by legendary composer John Barry, The Amorous Prawn is a stellar feature in every respect. Starring Joan Greenwood as a general's wife whose moneyspinning manoeuvre causes ructions in their Highlands HQ, this entertainingly boisterous comedy adapting Kimmins' long-running West-End stage hit is featured here in a brand-new transfer from the original film elements in its original theatrical aspect ratio.

When General Fitzadam receives his final posting in the remote Scottish Highlands, his wife decides to turn their residence into a hotel for wealthy Americans. Unfortunately Lady Fitzadam declines to brief the General on 'Operation Lolly' an attempt to raise the cash needed to buy their dream cottage and smouldering confusion explodes into a full-scale riot when he makes an unexpected return to find amorous advances among the flower beds, suspicious shenanigans in the greenhouse and blatant bribery on the salmon lake!

Thanks network once again releasing rare films this was one if about six I sent to them last summer and asked them to release of they could get them the iron Maiden is out next and that was on that list as well
So thanks in last two years about a dozen films I and I hope others have suggested have been released I have an unauthorised copy as well last few years as I did with all my old films but I always make a point of purchasing the real thing when released so it saddens me to see 3 minutes edited out which make Two later scenes disjointed but I won't take stars off despite that I'd given the naughty one to parents now I'll have to swap cases and keep the naughty one for me and put the new one in the old ones case for parents

A delightful, slightly offbeat comedy from 1962. Where the title for this unusual romp featuring a choice selection of acting talent? You'll have to wait to well into the second half of the film to find that out.

General Fitzadam (Cecil Parker) lives with his wife, Her Ladyship, Dodo (Joan Greenwood) and a bevy of army personnel (with Corporal Ian Carmichael in charge but always answerable to Her Ladyship) in a plush War Ministry mansion representing the North West Highland Division somewhere not far from Oban.

The General is called away on War Office business in the far oceans of the planet to spectator missile testing there. He is due shortly to retire and both he and his wife have in mind for their retirement a comfortable country cottage in which to see out their final years. The chief obstacle to this dream, as with many things in life, is lack of cash.

With the General elsewhere, Her Ladyship makes good use of her talented staff in a transformation of their residence into a luxury hotel for wealthy Americans, or whatever, by which she quickly amasses sums of money towards her retirement objective.

The missile testing gets cancelled and the General wires "home" to that effect, but the message gets delayed so that he returns to base without warning with amusing and unexpected results.

A raucous lark from start to finish. O! and the repetitive “signature tune” is just right.

Good picture and sound quality.
