Product Description

Product Description

Adapted from a popular Stephen King short story, the original CHILDREN OF THE CORN (1984) became one of the most successful of the legendary author's page-to-screen adaptations. This hit horror sickie headlines Linda Hamilton (THE TERMINATOR) and Peter Horton (TV's THIRTYSOMETHING) as a travelling couple who unwittingly become trapped in the fictional town of Gatlin, Nebraska, and find themselves stalked by a creepy clan of young cultists. No adult is allowed to survive in Gatlin or else, their prophecy predicts, the harvest will collapse. Suffice to say, all hell soon breaks loose (literally) and demonic entities ensure that Hamilton and her husband are in for a long night...

Co-starring popular genre face Courtney Gains (THE 'BURBS) and given a malevolent mid-western touch by director Fritz Kiersch (TUFF TURF), CHILDREN OF THE CORN remains one of the most spine-tingling terror titles of the 1980s.

Extras:

NEWLY COMMISSIONED FEATURE LENGTH DOCUMENTARY: THE LIFE, LEGACY AND LEGEND OF DON BORCHERS Accompanying this delicious package will also be a new full length documentary feature, THE LIFE, LEGACY AND LEGEND OF DON BORCHERS.

As the title suggests this labour of love undertaking focuses on the charismatic and frequently unrecognised genius producer behind CHILDREN THE CORN as well as such B-movie classics as BEASTMASTER (1982), ANGEL (1984), CRIMES OF PASSION (1984), VAMP (1986), TWO MOON JUNCTION (1989), DESIRE AND HELL AT SUNSET MOTEL (1991), DOPPLEGANGER (1993), THE DEMOLITIONIST (1995) and many more.

Developed and produced by Calum Waddell and Naomi Holwill of High Rising Productions, and directed by Jim Kunz, this feature production is sure to appease anyone curious about the challenges of creating quality low budget genre cinema.

Format: Blu-ray
Adapted from a short-story by the legendary writer 'Stephen King'
The film classed as one of the 80's slasher-movies became a huge box-office (for it's genre) hit back in 1984 when
first released.
The story follows 'Burt' (Peter Horton) and 'Vicky' (Linda Hamilton) on a journey come across a bloody murder
When arriving in the small town of 'Gatlin' in Nebraska to report what they have found it appears deserted.
Unbeknown to the couple at first is that a boy-preacher 'Isaac' (John Franklin) has gathered most of the children
of the town as his followers and ordered the killing of all adults.
As 'Outlanders' 'Burt' and 'Vicky' will be stalked by the blood-thirsty cult with 'Malachai' (Courtney Gains) doing the
bidding of the demonic 'Isaac'
The pair become trapped with little hope of making it out of 'Gatlin' alive, only with the help of 'Job' (Robbie Kiger)
and 'Sarah' (Anne Marie McEvoy) two young children not pulled into following the cult do they have any chance of
survival.
This film considered now as a cult-classic, certainly leading the trend of slasher movies that were to follow....
Unlike many of today's movies the result of the violent actions of the murderous cult is largely left to the imagination
....of course the success of the film led to four sequels being made.
The picture quality is not up to HD standard in truth though a marked improvement on it's DVD release.

Also Includes - The Life and Legacy of Donald P Borchers - an intimate celebration of the career of one of B-Movies lore's
most unrecognised mavericks.
The producer behind - ANGEL, CHILDREN OF THE CORN, CRIMES OF PASSION. DOPPLEGANGER, TWO MOON JUNCTION,
VAMP and many more speaks about the Hollywood mould.

PLOT...
A young couple is trapped in a remote town where a dangerous religious cult of children believe everyone over the age of 18 must be killed.

This is another great movie adapted from a Stephen King novel, a good addition to 88 films slasher classic line, theres plenty of grisly death mainly at the hands of children, the movie pretty much has an all child cast which is not as bad as it sounds, all the kids are weird and messed up and played by a good cast, the effects are cheap and there is little blood here and there but its an interesting idea for a story and well worth a looking if you love old cult 80's classics, the movie has a cool eerie soundtrack too!

The Blu-ray looks great in HD
Features are a documentary about producer Donald P Borchers (1hr-23mins)
Region B only, 92-mins, 1984.

I so wanted to like this film, and when I was 13 I thought it was great. A recent re-watching however, showed me that it is unfortunately, really bad. Some aspects are good, but it's just not well put together. A shame, one of Stephen King's great stories that really needs a good remake.
