This film made it onto the DPP's notorious list of banned films in the early 1980s. It was re-released some years later on video but in a heavily-cut version. Now horror fans can watch this film uncut thanks to Anchor Bay.

The film itself contains many of the `80s horror movie clichés - the nerdy kid who is always getting picked on, the naked girl in the shower, lots of daft plot elements that make no sense (how does he get all that computer equipment down to the basement single-handedly?) and masses of gruesome and over-the-top violence and gore.

The plot is fairly simple - an orphaned nerdy kid (played by `Gentle Ben' star Clint Howard - the brother of Ron Howard) plots revenge on his tormentors at a military school by using a computer to summon up the ancient spirit of a Satanist (I always knew computers could be dangerous). When the computer screen displays the message "Data incomplete... human blood required" you just know that there is lots of bloody carnage in store.

This film in its uncut form certainly does not disappoint on the gore front, particularly during the spectacular blood-drenched climax when Clint goes on the rampage with a huge broadsword. There is also a memorable scene where the aforementioned girl in the shower is attacked and eaten by a herd of ravenous wild boar! With this double-disc package you get two versions of this film but most horror fans will just really be interested in the uncut version. If you have not seen it, this is definitely worth checking out.

By the way, in case anyone was wondering. This version by Anchor bay is uncut with all the gore left in tact. Evilspeak was a pretty decent 80's horror flick although I do think it was flawed, but I still enjoyed it. Clint Howard (Ron Howard's brother) is an orphan who attends a prestigious military school. Most of the kids hate his guts and they spend most of their days bullying him. Clint then gets a job cleaning up an old church and one day, he finds a book of black magic in the basement. He uses his computer to translate the book’s passages and before you know it; his computer is possessed by the spirit of an evil Satanist (Richard Moll). Pretty soon, the spirit takes over Clint’s body and gives him to power to get back at all the people that tormented him. I liked the location of this movie. The military school setting definitely gave the flick an Omen 2 kind of vibe. And Clint Howard is pretty good as the goofball loser who embraces the dark side to get revenge. The gore is pretty good too as there are several decapitations, a head twisted all the way around, and a hilarious scene where a naked woman gets eaten by pigs in her bathtub. It’s a bit sillier than most, and suffers from a really slow start, which doesn’t help. Plus, the stuff with the demonic computer is just too goofy for words, but if you can get past this then you'll enjoy this obscure and entertaining horror flick.

Evilspeak made it onto the official video nasty list, but in all honesty, even completely uncut, it's pretty tame stuff. If you want the full uncut version get the DVD released by Anchor Bay. It's an entertaining 80s splatter flick about a young guy (Clint Howard) who's constantly bullied by his classmates and the staff at the military school where he's staying. One day, while cleaning the school basement he finds a dusty old book which opens a world of black magic up to him. Using the book and a computer he exacts his revenge on the school bullies who have made his life a misery, becoming possessed by the spirit of the satanist who originally wrote the book. There's some nice gory deaths towards the end of the movie including - attacks by flesh-eating pigs, beheadings, heart-ripping, etc. I'd certainly say it's one of the better video nasties.

PLOT...
A military cadet who happens to be a social outcast and is always tormented by everyone taps into a way to summon demons, using an ancient satanic ritual he acts out his revenge.

This is your typical 80's classic style satanic style movie, nerd gets picked on and stumbles upon his way to act revenge, good story that starts slow and builds really well with good fun characters, the effects are all practical old school and look great as do the sets etc, the soundtrack is over the top but really adds to the movie and the atmosphere of the dark satanic scenes, there is helpings of female nudity of course added to the mix, if you love cult classic 80's movies this one is really worth picking up, a descent budget movie that's great fun, really bloody and gory at times especially towards the movies fantastic and unforgettable finale!

Blu-ray looks great in HD
Features include an extended cut in SD, Introduction, commentary, interviews, making of, effects, trailer, lots of great stuff,
Reversible cover with cool original artwork, plus you get a slipcase.

Stanley a cadet at a military school is being bullied and tormented by his fellow cadets. He then finds a book and in reading it finds out that he can with the help of his computer summon up evil spirits to exact his bloody revenge against his tormentors.

Evilspeak is in some ways quite a strange film, the first hour or so is nothing but a long set up and a lot of talk, in fact apart from the pig scene I found it a little boring, the last 30 mins or so however everything speeds up significantly and the horror ramps up so much it actually felt like a separate film to me. The bullying part of the story is good but there is just to much of it and goes on to long, performance wise Clint Howard as Stanley makes for quite a good victim who dramatically changes, R.G. Armstrong who plays Sarge is also good, the rest of the cast are also decent. The violence is non existent until the last third of the picture where it becomes very bloody with use of a sword and the said pigs-(the reason it appeared on the video nasty list). The effects are quite good and effective, especially as the victims are almost all male which is unusual for this kinds of thing. While this is never really a scary film there are a couple of very good jump scares at certain points in the film.

The main problem for me is the jarring between the first hour and the rest of the picture is just doesn't cohere into one narrative, the pacing is to slow and then suddenly everything just goes along much faster. If the rest of the film was like that it could have been a real horror classic.
