Product Description

A group of aspiring actors are chosen to be on a reality based TV show where they have to face the thrills and scares of being in a Slasher Horror movie. They are taken to a remote cabin, which is equipped with scores of tiny cameras. What the contestants don't know is that the Slasher they're facing is a real psychopath who has been purposely let loose. Their reality show is real and the Slasher is on a bloody rampage. The contestants are in for the fight of their lives and the only prize for winning is survival.

The games have begun and inside a fortress like control room, an insane game master watches the footage as life and death play out for his amusement.

This is a review for the low budget American indie film, "Playing with Dolls: Bloodlust" (2016)

Say what you like about Rene Perez, but he likes to keep busy. Here he is director, writer, editor and producer. He even found time to write the music as well. For all I know, he could be the bloke in the killer costume. Oh, and his daughter gets a cameo as the child of one of the main characters Stina (played by Karin Brauns).

As I understand it, there was also an earlier film called "Cinderella: Playing with Dolls" (or similar) by the same director, which I haven't seen, but which contained the same killer and voyeur character. From what I can gather it was......not good.

------spoilers-------

I can't decide whether "Bloodlust" is smarter than it first appears, or I'm giving it way too much credit. I'll assume Perez is going for satire here and review it that way. I honestly hope he was.

The story tells of four aspiring "actors" who think they are auditioning for a reality TV show, where they stay in a remote cabin and are stalked by a serial killer. The one that survives the week gets $1M and will be "the star in their own horror movie"
Unbeknownst to the fantastic four, the killer is real and the whole set-up is an elaborate game to amuse a rich voyeur called "The Watcher" (played by Richard Tyson), who spends most of the film sitting in a smokey cave watching things play out by camera feed.

Just before they jet off to their location, one of the original four, Mr King, has a hissy fit and storms off.

Playing with Dolls took me back to the 80's B movies. Awful wooden acting, beautiful girls, soundtrack was great, the picture quality was awful which for me was done for the 80's effect, plus the killings and gore were brilliant,(you do get a lot of limbs being cut off), but last but not least the killer himself looked evil and truly terrifying, and I have to admit I did jump out of my seat a few times. Don't get me wrong this is awful film, but if you are like me and remember the many dodgy slasher films back in the 70's/80s you will love this film. All in all a film for all slasher fans, and hopefully a sequel to come.

It does say on the front cover 'A Classic Horror in the Tradition of Halloween and Friday 13th'. For me this film was more like Friday the 13th.

Their are no bonus features or subtitles.

This is a Rene Perez's so bad its good film installment. Don't be confused, this in a one star or zero star film. I just thought it was so bad I got some enjoyment from it. A reality TV show takes 4 contestants to a mountain cabin where there is no cell phone service, except when the cell phone rings. There is a slasher up there and the last person standing stars in their own horror movie and that million dollar thing. I am not sure why someone wears a barbed wire guard around their head, seems a bit cumbersome at beddy-bye time. The film doesn't end with closure and director-writer-producer-etc.-etc. will certainly make another one. I am glad to see he is doing bad horror instead of bad fantasy films with idiotic flashbacks.

Guide; Nudity (Elonda Seawood, Karin Brauns or double)

No budget, sense or originality. This is just another run-of-the-mill DTV bottomfeeder, that has as much to do with Halloween and Friday the 13th as a mocha smoothiea has with violent diarrhea.
The hack Rene Perez acted as Director, Editor, Cinematographer, Writer, Composer and Producer on the cinematic skidmark, all to horrendously incompetent effect.
Just ignore it, nothing to see here.

I would have given this no stars. I rented it out on Amazon instant. It is cheap with lots of gore, the camera was shaky. It was stupid.
