By I. R. Kerr TOP 500 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 26 Mar. 2016
Format: DVD
Originally known as Uncaged Uncaged but probably changed because of the Nina Dobrev & Kevin Sorbo werewolf film with that same title, The film starts with young Jack waking up in bed as he hears growls and screams as his parents are attacked off screen by something, his father dies and his mother disappears. Many years later Jack is now orphaned and staying with his cousin when he is invited to stay for a winter break by his Uncle Mike. Two of his friends decide to tag along as they have nothing better to do. When they arrive there is a message from Mike saying he will be away for a while but will get there as soon as he can.
The next day Jack wakes up naked outside and has no idea how he got there.
The next night he wears a camera on a headband to try to find out if he is sleepwalking but the camera reveals something darker that the DVD cover makes no secret of. There is a subplot with a local hardnut gangster but that only serves to want us to encourage the werewolf to sic him.
It's a decent enough film, the werewolf transformation is pretty basic but wisely done using proper make-up and not CGI; we don't see that much of the actual changes probably due to budget restraints but what we do see is done well enough. The three lead characters are engaging enough in their onscreen interplay as daft teens out for a party for it to be classed as a comedy horror but you won't be howling with laughter, there's even a few comic book style artwork linking shots which worked quite well and as expected a couple of twists at the end, the last one I did expect.
It is not going to breathe new life into the Werewolf genre but is will be worth watching again.
The only extra is a trailer.
