The Paranormal Activity series (for me) has been a bit hit and miss to be honest. The original three were some of the creepiest psychological supernatural horrors I'd seen, I loved the original (at the time) idea of setting up cameras throughout the house to catch the demon on film with the "less is more" idea making it even easier to play on my mind afterwards. The fourth entry in the series was almost a parody of itself for a majority of the film going for a near comedy approach for the most part, whereas I still don't know what was going on in The Marked Ones with the Chronicle-like super powers and time travel (?!). So when I heard that the series was coming to an end I had a mixed reaction - sad that a yearly cinema trip on Halloween to watch a new film in a series I've mostly enjoyed but also glad because it would stop these film-makers thinking up more seemingly random ideas to potentially ruin the series even more. So needless to say I watched this one with pretty low expectations.

Surprisingly Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension was actually pretty good, if a little silly. It starts off during the Christmas holidays where the Fleege family are the next to be tormented by the demon, Toby. To make things a bit more interesting, they find a box of old videotapes and a camera that can actually sees spiritual images. This is where when I saw it in 3D at the cinema it had some very cool effects but obviously these weren't as effective when watching again this time round on a standard 2D blu ray disc. What this set does have though (like the previous movies on blu ray) is the alternative version that features a better ending than the original one (well, I preferred this new one anyway), so something different even for viewers who have seen the film already.

Half decent film that for me gets the five star treatment for its very good use of the 3D.
We say this at the cinema and I really like that the 3D was used sparingly and not throughout the entire movie making the effects more of a treat and they where used to very good effect indeed. A spooky and very jumpy movie that (as with most in the genre) does not rely on blood and gore to shock the viewer but builds the tension up slowly.
An easy addition to my BluRay collection and a movie that you can watch and enjoy more than once (especially with new people)

When a series that has so many episodes yet scores high on the hit and miss ratio, its hard to get overly excited when the filmmakers announce this is going to be the very last one - 'cause we all know they're lying. Only inferior box office can kill off cinematic demons. Yet here we are - supposedly at the final hurdle of this lacklustre franchise and after sitting through it, one wonders why anyone bothered.

Beginning in 1988 (this movie heavily references (for me) the best of the sequels, Part 3 which was set in that timezone) where a family of cultists are forcing a young girl to commune with an invisible entity (series villain Toby). Fast forward to 2013 when a brand new family moves into the same house and find the video camera and VHS tapes where all of this information has been documented. The camera is equipped with a weird capability, enabling the viewer to see the spirit world and most notably, the pseudo physical appearance of 'ol Tobe. When their young daughter Leila (Ivy George) also starts speaking with this bothersome fella (who, if honest you just wanna tell to go do one), brothers Mike (Dan Gill) and Ryan (Chris J. Murray) film every occurrence and when the old VHS tapes seemingly converge with what is happening in 2013, all bets are off as Toby arrives to take not only Leila, but also the lives of this unsuspecting family.

I do like horror movies, but this was a chore to sit through. Granted, the much lauded 3D technology was lost on my 2D viewing (so cannot comment on that aspect of the film), but even then I doubt the greatest effects in the world could save a dull script and ho hum direction.

this film really utilizes 3d in a very good way. The characters find a old hand held camera that allows you to see in 3d all the weird stuff that it happening to them. When they are not looking through it it's all 2d. This whole system works very well story wise too. All of the five movies are found footage films and of course you never saw the supernatural things; which was like the "blair witch project." This one is similar but in 3d you get to see the slimey evil in full depth. In fact this movie also has things fly at you , which some directors and studios are often afraid to do. One scene has a black shape that flies into you and it seems to hit you. At the theater in Denver, Colorado a viewer passed out because of that scene. Now that's a true scare. We threw water on his face and he was ok though. So if you want a good 3d film that has some interesting shots then this one will do.

First hour was good, but sadly it doesn't get much better, but at least the story is moving slightly forward because it just seemed to be going nowhere with the same kind of plot, but at least now their might be a conclusion, but I guess there will be many more films to come.

The big positive for me was at long last the film made me jump out of my seat, because for once you see something that jumps in front of the camera, I know people say what you don't see can be scarier than when you do, but to have nothing from the past films just becomes a bit boring with endless footage of a door slowly opening.
