The Entire Case History of Anna Ecklund: Americas Most Famous Case of Possession

In this terrifying true story, something beyond comprehension is happening to wife and mother Anna Ecklund. Once a mild mannered churchgoer, she is now prone to bouts of violent rage with a particular anger toward religious imagery. Desperate to find a cure for Anna's disturbing behaviour, her family call on doctors and psychiatrists to provide a diagnosis. But when no rational explanation can be found, local priest Father Riesinger teams up with Vatican investigator Father Lamont to evaluate the case. Realising that Anna is inhabited by a malevolent entity, the priests take her to a nearby Convent to perform an Exorcism. But all hell breaks loose and a brutal battle between good and evil begins.

I really enjoyed this film. The cast were solid and the story itself was unnerving, especially when watched in the light of knowing there is some kind of true events tied to it.

It's not laden with gore and special effects - it's very character driven, which in my opinion marks out Andrew Jones's films. They always have this depth which makes his films more than just "horror." They always feel terribly real.

Lee Bane's acting is brilliant. He brings so much to the role. Tiffany Ceri is also very good, as the possessed victim.

Contains plot spoilers, although for some strange reason exorcism movies all have the same plot.

In the opening we are explained Passover, as read, and are then subjected to seven minutes of credits with church organ music as Anna (Tiffany Ceri) makes slow motion snarly faces at the camera. Knowing this is the scene the director wanted, I dared to watch on as we discover Anna was once possessed at 14 (what kid isn't) and this is a repossession (minus Linda Blair), with a demon seven times that of a normal immortal demon.

Anna of course is Catholic, the favorite of Mr. "S" himself and is going to be exorcised by Father Richard (Lee Bane) an atheist priest with his own "demons" sort of speak. During this time we get the Cliffs Note version of the theology of both "The Exorcist I and II." Every time Anna moves her neck from side to side we hear bones crack as if moving your head from left to right is somehow unnatural. Perhaps the worst aspect of the film was the soundtrack at the end during the various closing possession scenes as we hear what sounds like a muffled lawn mower getting louder and softer. Granted Ave Satani has been overdone, but it always works.

Tiffany Ceri has not mastered the sinister possessed laugh. It was funny to watch her do it. Her friend Laura (Melissa Bayern) was given terrible lines that neither she nor the director knew what to do with them.

Anna does the whole potty mouth scene but stops short at sex or nudity. Heck, not even a decent up skirt.

I really wasted my money renting this. It's not even "so bad, it's good". It's a poorly acted, poorly written film and it's extremely boring to sit through. Although it's only 75 minutes long, it's a slog that feels a lot longer. Avoid at all costs.

Dreadful bottom rung exorcism film with virtually no production values and barely adequate acting. This thing is a slight 75 minutes long including padded out credits at the beginning and end of the film that probably add 10 minutes to the running time--so clearly the filmmakers didn't have very many ideas to begin with. The bizarre thing is that almost all of the ideas they do have come from Exorcist 2--The Heretic.

The exorcist in this film has lost his faith--like Richard Burton's character in The Heretic, although Burton's priest had a much better reason than the completely idiotic one the filmmakers came up with here. The possessed woman was previously exorcised as a teen and became possessed again about 10 years later. Linda Blair's character in The Heretic had previously been exorcised as a child and needed the services of a priest again as a teen. Linda Blair's character in The Heretic could heal and calm with the touch of her hands--and Anna Ecklund here has those very same powers. Linda Blair's character was targeted twice by demons because of her innate goodness--and, you guessed it, Anna is targeted here by diabolical forces twice for the exact same reason. Both films even end with an earthquake--although where John Boorman had the budget for a rain of locusts The Exorcism of Anna Ecklund only has money for some falling feathers (no, I'm not kidding).

While I personally think Exorcist 2--The Heretic is underrated if you are going to make your own exorcism movie that's probably not the best film to be ripping off. The only non-Exorcist 2 idea that The Exorcism of Anna Ecklund comes up with is throwing in a few possessed nuns, but it's way too little too late to save this unimaginative turkey.

This is possbly one of the worst films I've ever had the misfortune to not only rent from Lovefilm, but to watch ever! How some members on here have given this film a positive review is beyond me. Foolishly I ignored the bad reviews on Lovefilm and instead was intrigued and misled by the misguided members.
There's barely a story line, and the supposedley scary bits are laughable especially the climax.
I rarely post reviews but I felt so strongly about how bad this film is that I just had to add a review, especially given the misleading positive reviews left on here.

If there was a way to give this minus or no stars id do it. Truly appauling film. If you can battle past the truly unimaginative downright weird credits (seven mins of a blonde in a nightie tearing up her bedsheets while making some very obscure facial expressions to a musical score got for a cheap ghost train) you've done well. Beyond that prepare yourself for 80 mins of bad acting dreadful effects odd "holy" behaviour and a downright mockery of the genre. Steer clear
