As a standalone film this would have probably got a 5 star rating from me. However with this being part of the Maze Runner series I was considering giving less stars. After reading the books I was much anticipating this film and how it would match and to say it's disappointing would be an understatement.

The film itself is not a bad film but it sways so far from the book it's impossible to see how it could ever get back on track. I wish James Dashner had just been a bit firmer and put his foot down to even vaguely keep the story on track to the book. Unfortunately like so many adaptations it's been given the Hollywood treatment.

For a start the scorch trials should be just that, the second phase in wicked's experiment but right from the start this becomes a military escape and capture film. Jansen becomes a military guy and not the scientist from the book. So there's no room for him to evolve in film 3. The cranks are completely different loosing their effect of bordering insanity. Brenda and Teresa's roles are completely changed and although Teresa does betray Thomas it's in completely a different way meaning there's no natural way for Thomas' feelings to change and build towards brenda. The 'safe haven' becomes the right arm which shouldn't even be introduced till book/film 3. There's hardly any mention of a second maze so the second group almost becomes irrelevant. You could say wicked looses it's power and control too early in the films. The film ends with Thomas vowing to destroy wicked not having been 'rescued' from the safe haven and Teresa's memory already being restored . Meaning the third film can't even start like the book. And those are just a very few changes.

Overall if you haven't read the books you'll probably love it's spectacle. However if you are a fan of the books and are looking for loyalty you definitely won't find it here, I'd stick to the book.

I went to see this not expecting great things. I ended up absolutely loving it. With suspense, shocks and a couple of sinister characters i was hooked almost instantly. Even jumping out my skin a few times much to my embarrassment. It cant be only me though that noticed a huge huge similarity to the Fallout game series? Post apocalyptic environment, Ghouls, Vertibirds, Spore Carriers, Three Dog, Raiders, shadowy government Enclave working for the "best" of humanity, even the settlements where reminiscent of visited places during my adventures in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Dont get me wrong this actually made me enjoy the film even more but I cant be the only one that noticed the large amount of similarities.
I would definitely recommend this film to thrill seekers, adventure lovers and Vault Dwellers.

This is a good follow up to the first film and an enjoyable film to watch. The film follows on from Maze Runner with Thomas and his friends on their way to a rescue facility on the helicopter that rescued them from the maze. There is a rush to get into the facility as the infected are everywhere and trying to get the group and their protectors and apparently the infected are everywhere outside the relative safety of the maze and now this facility. Once inside they find that they are not the only ones to be rescued from a maze and that there were lots of other mazes and lots of other kids. The kids have a lottery and are called day to day by the administrator of the facility in order to be transported to the safe zone and their new home although when Thomas befriends another boy the other boy shows him that all is not as it seems......

I really enjoyed this film and there were a few points such as the tower buildings scene where the action was intense and really exciting. I haven't yet got around to reading the books and I assume the third film will be where even more of the action is and therefore this second film is a nice filler but still with enough action scenes and storyline to make this a good movie to watch.
