American Jack Dwyer and his family relocate to Asia for a new job just as a violent uprising that sees all foreigners hunted and killed starts. Tense and thrilling, with Owen Wilson giving one of his best performances as Jack and a decent performance from Lake Bell as his wife and decent performances from the kids, it sees Jack's dream job turn into a nightmare as he tries to keep his family safe and escape from an absolute hell hole with only Pearce Brosnan giving one of his best performances since leaving the James Bond films as an ex military man supposedly on holiday in the unnamed country as an ally. The villains are basically nameless and faceless thugs and it is a short but sweet action thriller with some good action.

I'll get straight to the point on this one and can say this film is excellent. To be honest I was going to wait until it was included in some sort if offer but fancied a new film to watch so picked up a copy for £13. And it was worth paying the full price. One of the reasons I was willing to wait was because the star of the film is Owen Wilson. I don't like his comedy movies at all and the only other film I own with him in is the very funny and best Jim Carrey flick, The Cable Guy. I will be the first to admit that I was wrong about Owen Wilson because he is fantastic in No Escape and perfectly cast. There are no heroics in this as such, just a every day guy trying to save his family which Wilson plays fantastically. He plays the role straight and with vulnerability.

Now the real reason I was quite looking forward to No Escape was because of Pierce Brosnan. I love the films he is doing of late and it's good to see that he has shaken off his 007 persona which other Bond actors struggle to do so. Just look at some of the movies Bronsnan had done with an harder edge such as The Matador and November man. Both very good films and show Brosnan in a totally different light to that of James Bond. While I'm on the subject of Bond, I thought Brosnan did a great job and Goldeneye is one of my favourite of the series.

In No Escape Brosnan plays his role well and is convincing as grizzled well travelled man and comes across a bit like Captain Jack Sparrow. I just wish the film explored his charecter more and we saw more of him.

The action scenes are top notch in this and the tension is almost unbearable at times, especially the roof top scene when the family escape the bad guys. And while I'm on the subject, the baddies are truly despicable and ruthless.

Jack Dwyer (Owen Wilson) moves his family to a Southeast Asian nation (filmed in Thailand). He is an engineer for Cardiff, a company constructing the new water works. He meets Hammond (Pierce Brosnon) an ex-pat who drinks and causes civil unrest with his bad karaoke. The family is literally caught in the middle of a revolution, one where all foreigners must die. Jack and his family play hide and run for 90 minutes.

You can feel the intensity in the film during the roof scene which is depicted on the film poster, DVD cover and is in all the trailers. The rest of the movie is anti-climatic by comparison. Pierce Brosnon does disappear from the film for awhile, but returns to give us "the speech" about third world countries, [IMF] debt, foreign interests, and economic enslavement. You know, the terrorists are really the good guys speech.

The hide and seek part went long. In fact after the roof scene, I couldn't wait for the conclusion. Owen Wilson would not have been my first choice for the role. He didn't generate any excitement.

Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity. Near rape. Pierce Bronson assaults our ears with karaoke.

When you see the extra features available it becomes clear that this is quite a low budget movie. There is plenty of action but the plot is similar to much that has gone before and is not too original. That said,it is good entertainment and Owen Wilson is quite excellent.
Filmed in northern Thailand, many of the locals in the film also speak in Lao.There is clearly an intention to recognise that the plot is not taking place in Thailand but somewhere quite fictitious. This was probably necessary in order to get permission to have the film made there - primarily not to cause offence to the two main rival political factions.
To obscure this fact further.virtually all the street signs written in Thai have been turned round so they are seen as if viewed from behind so they appear to be written in a totally obscure and imaginary language.Quite clever really.
Pretty good overall and worth a watch.

Enjoyable but rather silly thriller. We have Owen Wilson playing serious. We have Mr Brosnan doing a Ray Winstone impression and we have a band of evil people who seem to be able to track Owens family wherever they may be. Despite all this I still found it very enjoyable.

Huge fan of Owen Wilson and unfortunately for me I can't take him in a serious role. It's not his fault, he has just made some really good funny movies and this movie is just not great. The whole premise that the entire rebel army are after him, and blaming him for everything is so far fetched. I am sure that this movie was trying to portray a serious note, but it became farcical as where ever he went he was hunted down. Of course they had to get in the wife nearly getting raped, which makes my stomach turn. I was desperate for this movie to end and was grateful when it did. I think in the future I will stick to movies only where Mr Wilson is playing to his strengths, that of making me laugh.
