This is a fantastic little gem from the late 80's, directed by Fred Olen Ray the king of B-movie cheesy classics, the story is silly yet just so much fun, a private dick tracks down a young girl who was reported missing only to find she's part of a cult of people who worship chainsaws, he eventually sides with her and together they have to stop them before they become the next sacrifices to the chainsaw gods, its silly yes but has a great cast of classic cult actors and actresses, the humour is great, cheesy yet hilarious dialogue, lots of bloody violence and plenty of nudity! This is a perfect cocktail of everything you want from an 80's slasher and lots more, make sure you check out 88 films awesome new Blu-ray version!

Blu-ray picture quality looks really good,
Features are fantastic, you get the full length Linnea Quigley's horror work-out video which features nudity, clips from her movies and lots of sexy work-outs in skimpy underwear, Linnea was a very flexible former playboy model who made her name as a scream queen by starring in many horror movies throughout the 80's. this work-out also has a full commentary. 1hr long.
There is a short archive making of and a great 27 years later documentary 20-min approx.
audio commentaries, trailers and more.
Reversible sleeve is nothing special its the same artwork from the front but without the certifications printed on it.
Region B, 75-mins feature, 1988.
Also comes with a 3 page booklet interviewing actor Gunnar Hansen.

HOLLYWOOD CHAINSAW HOOKERS (1988) is indeed about Hollywood hookers (all two of them) who are part of an ancient Egyptian chainsaw cult which requires its devotees to sacrifice people (by the use of chainsaws) to their ancient Egyptian god. I expected a cheap production -it cost $50k. I suspected a short shooting period -I estimated 5 days, it was actually five and half. I expected bad acting -and got it, plus some very hammy acting.

What I didn't expect was a very entertaining and oddly charming comedy. The gore quotient, if you don't count splatters of fake blood with source unseen, is very low indeed. The sexual activity is mostly off-screen but there is, thankfully at least a reasonable amount of female nudity -I mean, come on, this is an exploitation movie for heaven's sake! There's a good interview with the schlockmeister writer/director/producer Fred Olen Ray, who comes over as honest and likeable, who has made dozens of cheapo movies and appears genuinely surprised that people actually really like this one. They do because, more by luck than design, it just works.

This was always a guilty pleasure in the good old days so I looked forward to an uncut release on blu ray.

Film is not as fun as I remember but still has its moments. Still love Michelle dancing and the acting is as bad as you can imagine. The gore is there but done like a troma release. Uncut really doesn't add much to what we had before. The main difference is the addition of chainsaw in the title. I'm still glad I bought it and the price was quite cheap for a blu ray.

What else can I say about Hollywood chainsaw hookers! really nothing that hasn't already been said, so this review is about the hard box from CMV laservision. The cover and disc have basically the same image. The color is very vibrant on both and comes with only one disc and no insert or booklet. I was a little disappointed about that. The front and back are in german and the disc menus are in german. Now on to the movie. English or german language options for the movie and the trailer and special features are in English. The movie itself appears to be all there (I didn't notice anything missing) or uncut. runs about 75min. Now the reason for the 4 stars. The only real complaint that I have is the format. 1,5:1 code 2/pal although the picture quality is pretty good and clean the screen is cut down both on the sides and top and bottom. This did bug me at first but quickly got past it. What a great movie. I hope this review helps for there wasn't much to go on in the product info.

Any movie that features Michelle Bauer nude is guaranteed a decent rating in my book. As it happens though, this film didn't need the extra booby-age because it's pretty darned entertaining in its own right. The movie's about a wise-cracking detective who's on the trail of a murderous cult which worships chainsaws. That alone should give you a feel for what kind of film this is. Think Naked Gun, but with heavy emphasis on the "naked". Did I mention that Linnea Quigley is in this one too? Anyway, the film is genuinely funny, unlike 99.9% of the horror-comedies that continue to inexplicably pop up every other day. Invite your friends round, crack open some beers and enjoy!

My only gripe is that the otherwise splendid 20th Anniversary release (which also includes a terrific commentary track by Fred Olen Ray, by the way), unfortunately comes slightly cropped so that when Bauer does her nude scene certain important details at the bottom of the screen are lost. Boo!

Aside from this particular release, I've only seen an old VHS copy of the film, so I can't tell the prospective buyer what other DVD releases they might prefer to this one. Sorry.

Before I finish this review I'd like to throw in a quick rant. You see, when this film was originally released here in the UK on VHS it had to be cut (blood + breasts = big no no!) Moreover, the title of the film had to be changed aswell, so what we got over here was "Hollywood [picture of a chainsaw] Hookers". The word "chainsaw" had to be removed.
