Product Description

Product Description

ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING follows a disillusioned school teacher, Neil Clarke (Pegg) who suddenly finds he has the ability to do anything he wishes, a challenge bestowed upon him by a group of power-crazed aliens (voiced by Cleese, Gilliam, Jones, Palin & Idle), watching him from space. As he struggles to deal with these new found powers and the events that subsequently arise, he calls upon his loyal canine companion Dennis (voiced by Robin Williams) to help him along the way. Mishap after mishap finally leads him to the ultimate conundrum that all men dread and at which many have failed….should he choose the girl….or the dog….?

Aside from the debacle that was Burke and Hare, Pegg never really puts a foot wrong when it comes to choosing his roles, and even though this is just a throwaway piece of fluff, the British Bruce Almighty if you would, there is enough going on in such a short amount of time to forgive the films main shortcoming.......Rob Riggle.

His character is from a totally different film and has no business being here. He has nothing in common with any of the other characters, and appears to try to upstage everyone on screen by being just too over the top. He ruins the film with every scene with which he's involved, and nearly ruins the flow of the film.

Other than him, it's pretty pleasant stuff. Pegg can do the Everyman with his eyes shut, and he's such a vibrant, happy presence on screen, you never fear for his character or his shortcomings, because the man is just too endearing.

But because the film has so many characters, a lot of people are sidelined in way of being a punchline. Izzard is the biggest victim here, his motivation here is from being totally abhorrent toward Neil, to being his best friend. He's in the film for literally three scenes, and he's probably only doing it because He's such good friends with the Pythons.

And speaking of the Pythons, they just appear to be going through the motions, doing a favour for Jones, and appearing in voice only. For nostalgia though, it's essential for the Python completest.

Williams rounds up the legends here as the voice of Dennis, and unfortunately it's not his finest hour. Again, just lend in his voice to the proceedings. But again, the man puts so much energy and life into his work, it's still brings that Williams touch to such a short role.

I thought i might not like this after hearing many negative reviews upon its release, but it appealed to me,so i gave it a go and quite enjoyed it.
Ok,so it isn;t a great movie and there are things i didn't like about it,but some scenes made me laugh a lot.
In short, aliens give a simple man absolute power to test if earth is worth saving.
he of course makes a mess of things upon realising he has the power to do anything.
i would say that certain actors were miscast or just not at their best,Kate Beckinsale for one,but Simon Pegg is great.
Although some things didn't make much sense considering the main character could do anything he wished, other scenes made me laugh a lot,my kind of stupid i guess.
I loved the dog poo scene and the whisky scene, the bit where every dead person comes alive also made me laugh and the dog works well, all funny stuff. Simon plays the guy who keeps messing it up very well, realising he has to go careful what exactly he wishes for,as he will get it.
So certain stuff could've been done so much better, such as more jokes and more logical thinking. This could'be been brilliant and i would argue some scenes were, but sadly too much frustration lets this down. It really isn't awful in my view,it is just far from perfect and a real missed opportunity. If only there weren't so many bits where not much happens or the characters were better, this would've been my idea of comedy gold, when i laughed,i really laughed, but i didn't laugh enough. I quite enjoyed it though.

When a space probe is picked up by an advanced alien race, the aliens put into place a standard bureaucratic procedure designed to ascertain our suitableness to be allowed into the club of enlightened and acceptable races in the Cosmos. The test as you may have guessed, is to give one individual the ability to do “Absolutely Anything” (AA) and monitor what he/she actually does with this amazing power. If he/she fails to use the power wisely our planet will be destroyed.

Simon Pegg, a reluctant secondary school teacher and aspiring writer, is unwittingly chosen and finds he can do anything at all. At first its a bit of a joke changing the weather and making people like him but it soon gets out of control and he realises his powers can really affect not only the people around him but the world in general. When some of his choices start to go wrong the future of earth looks in peril. With great power comes great responsibility.

It has to be said that this is not Simon Pegg's greatest hour, although talented he still need good material and AA is very average. Joanna Lumley and Eddie Izzrd appear but blink and you will miss them. Terry Jones puts in a fairly funny but short cameo and Kate Beckinsale sleepwalks through the love interest role with little enthusiasm. The acting honours go to the late Robin Williams who plays Pegg's dog who can now speak. William's take on dog intelligence is very funny and is easily the best aspect of the film. Sanjeev Bhaskar and Myra Syall pop up but have little to do really. The aliens played by the remaining Pythons inject a little Douglas Adams's type humour but add little to the story really and we find out very little about them. A sub plot with an American serviceman is just daft and should have ended up on the cutting room floor.
