She s changed identities and cities, reluctantly joining a support group where she begins to piece together a new life. However when her new friend s murderer goes free and the tales of serial rapists from the support group haunt her, Jennifer is determined to hunt down the men responsible and do what the system won t she will make them pay for their crimes in the most horrific ways imaginable. Only this time, no jury may be able to save her. Jennifer Landon (Banshee) and Gabriel Hogan (Heartland) co-star in this unforgiving, unmerciful and uncut new chapter of one of the most notorious franchises in movie history.

To be fair, I Spit on your Grave 3 shows actual, honest signs of making an attempt to deliver something a little more thoughtful and intelligent than the typical revenge-thriller. But, as it’s an ISOYG film and consequently has to deliver a fair proportion of torture and mayhem, it quickly gets bogged-down in a rather messy puddle. As a result, it’s probably a notch or two better than the dire part 2, but it lacks the punch of the well-made and genuinely absorbing first instalment.

The longer the film plays, the more and more ludicrous things become. By the mid-way point, with reality already stretched, you might be surprised how dull and repetitive it all actually is. Sarah Butler's reliable but the tale, set in a world where just-about every male is a potential, one-dimensional manic sex-pest who needs squishing like a cockroach, becomes dubious and tiresome with threadbare characters and little attempt to, in any way whatsoever, to develop any of them. By the final act, it’s become a rambling mess with a closure which is as bizarre as it is incoherent – if it were the director’s and writers' intentions for the roles to almost switch - it is Butler’s character who has become, by the closure, more of a danger to society than the men who lurk on street corners waiting to attack - we might actually be onto something interesting. But one’s never quite sure if this is the actual intention.

The violence itself is typical Hollywood-stuff; lots of ultra-quick editing etc so the camera never pauses for too long on the mayhem, but it doesn’t disguise some poor special effects (throats being cut, thick poles up rectums, body-parts being snipped-off).

Almost totally ignoring the second movie, ISOYG 3 is the pinnacle of straight to Blu Ray horror sequels, if it ain't broke, don't fix it......but up the ante just that little bit.

As a standalone movie, it's a right mind-boggling film to get through, merging revenge films such as Death Wish, Angel, and then sticking a little bit of Se7en and The Sixth Sense in for good measure.

And the result can be confusing for the first act. Jennifer gets hassled by a few people to begin with, attacks them, and then the scene cuts back to what is nothing more than a daydream. The poor woman's having some sort if flashback.

Then, after her new friend is killed, the flashbacks still occur, but now, she is also exacting revenge on her counselling buddies antagonists, and the results leave the viewer in a bit of a haze as to what is real and imaginary.

For gore-hounds, this is a must. There are two scenes that left me wincing, and at least one I literally went 'oh my lord' at.

Even though there is no physical female assault seen on screen, the film depicts all males as weak, predatory, or absolute bonkers in this, and it does grate to a curtains extent. But I fear that this wasn't the films aim.

I believe that the films aim was to exploit its subject matter, to be a violent as possible and for that achievement, it succeeds.

If you are a fan of the remake, and it's sequel, it's affable stuff.

But don't expect anything subtle.

One to watch on your own.

***This review is for the film only***

Having really enjoyed the first 2 extremely graphic installments of this franchise, I was interested to see how they could take it forwards with another sequel.
Following on from the first film, this one centers around rape victim Jennifer Hills, now going by the name of Angela (Sarah Butler) as she tries to overcome the ordeal she suffered in the first movie, by regularly attending a rape victims group, suggested by her therapist. Here she makes friends with another woman and her life seems to be taking an upwards turn, however, after a series of tragic events come to light within the group, Jennifer once again takes the law into her own hands to dish out her own brand of justice.

This third installment of the remake franchise takes a slightly different turn to the other 2 movies, it's a lot more character driven and for the first half of the film, focuses on Jennifers struggles to move on with her life and to learn how to trust again. It's a lot less disturbing and graphic than the previous 2 movies and at first it seemed a little slow.
However, fans of the revenge scenes from the first 2 movies do get thier patience rewarded when Jennifer goes on the rampage to do what the law can't and deal with some very bad people in the most gruesome and painful ways imaginable.

While I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did the first 2 installments, it's still a decent rape revenge thriller and has some genuinely disturbing scenes to sit through (especially if you're a man) The story and believability of the film is nowhere near as realistic but then, if you've come here to watch a sequel to the first 2 films, then story and realism is probably not what you are looking for.
