Product Description

UNCUT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE UK ON BLU-RAY

A dazzling adventure of faraway lands and heroic spectacles, this heart-soaring epic follows the brave Sinbad the Sailor (Lou Ferrigno, "The Incredible Hulk") in a rousing tale based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Thousand-and-Second Tale of Scheherazade."

Sinbad discovers that Jaffar, the evil Vizier to the good Calif of Basra, has placed a spell on Basra, turning its people into animals and enslaving the mind of the Calif. Sinbad sets forth on a journey to retrieve the five sacred gems of Basra that will defeat Jaffar, which Jaffar has dispatched to places of great evil. He must succeed before Jaffar's spell saps the will of the Calif's daughter Alina, the beloved of one of Sinbad's crewmen, and forces her to marry him.

The film starts off in modern day and time (1989) with a mother reading Arabian nights to her daughter.
The moms voiceover is constant throughout the film narrating the WHOLE story. This film would have been more interesting IF we were seeing and listening to the dialogue between Sinbad and his sailor. Instead we get a nauseating female narrating throughout this very enjoyable film

As the mother reads the Arabian nights book, then film then starts to visually show us the viewers whats on the written page.

Sinbad is well made with some nice special effects/ optics and set designs. I particularly liked ‘Skull moutain’. There are some very good action fight sequences.

Lou ferignos voice is dubbed over. Sinbad is visually very good. The MGM dvd transfer is also clean and crisp.

there is one trailer included on the DVD.

A good family film.

There is one gap/ flaw in this film- what happens to ‘Suckkra’ the Amazon witch helping jaffar?

Worth buying

When I was growing up I had a video copy of this film and I used to love it. I ingored the Harryhausen films for a long time because big Lou Ferrigno WAS Sinbad to me. Now seeing it again on DVD I have to admit that the film is flawed. Now I feel that the narration is really annoying and extremely false. I think the idea was to give the film a story book feel, well it doesn't work. Any way it still is fun to watch. Its not the turkey people would have you believe.

The Print is good and the sound is clear not DTS quality but decent enough

Obviously not the Disney one but was a funny 1980s movie. Bit on the cheap budget but enjoyable. Down to you.
