    Format: Blu-ray
An evil child frames his twin brother for murder – 10 years on, when the sane brother escapes from an asylum, he finally has an excuse to kill again. The clunky dialogue and bog-standard horror scenarios really emphasise the wooden performances – championed by the mum, who is drunk in one scene, then normal, then catatonic, then madly cleaning, then scoffing food off the floor… she’s laughably terrible. Strangely, the direction itself isn’t bad; conjuring up some striking and iconic images, and the ‘twins’ aspect (both played by the same actor) is well done; arguably the most impressive thing about the film.

Despite the catalogue of unintentional missteps it’s a fun enough film to watch – namely due to the comically extreme and over the top slashtastic gore: entire sets are painted red, and limbs & bodies end up everywhere. Mash this all together and it kind of works in a weird, How Did This Get Made type of way (nothing about the story makes sense). While Blood Rage isn’t a great film in anyone’s book; it’s the best type of bad film, for having a high body count, and being knowingly bad (like the Cranberry sauce zinger!). it can still be enjoyed, and is prime for cult viewings and drinking games.

    PLOT...
The movie starts with 2 young boys Todd and Terry, one of them commits a horrendous crime with an axe and the other brother takes the blame and gets put in a mental hospital, 10 years later the brother escapes and comes back home to face the real killer who has been free all along and the blood rage begins again!

This is a fantastic slice of 80's slasher heaven in every way, a typical story line that sets up the path for murder, great characters and plenty of the red stuff, the cast is all pretty decent in this movie, a nice group of youngsters all ripe for the picking, the gore in this movie is very good, plentiful great kills throughout all horribly bloody and all great looking practical effects, decent music score too and it all looks fantastic in HD on Blu-ray, this is one of the best arrow slasher releases in a while, plentiful extra stuff on the discs too, this is a must horror to add to the collection.

Transport yourselves back to the heyday of the slasher film with this stellar Arrow offering.
A good sharp release considering the age of the film and its relative obscurity.
The storyline offers a different take on the confusion between identical twins chestnut, but it's quite good and the kill scenes are excellent.
Add a few super 80s girls into the mix ( Julie Gordon & Lisa Randall) and you have a piquant recipe which is well worth sampling.

A little know 80s slasher that was shot in the early 80s but no released until the late 80s. This is one of the very few Thanksgiving Day slashers tha I can remember. Basic plot is there are twin boys, 1 commits a murder then frames his brother. 10 years later the brother escapes from his institution, returns home & the body count starts to pile up again. Its a very enjoyable film, especially for fans of slashers as it does something a bit different with the whole twins aspect. Acting is ok, effects were very good also. This releases from Arrow contains 3 cuts of the films, the theatrical, home video & a composite of both. Also comes with a nice slipcover & a booklet. Other features include interviews, filming locations, commentary, gallery. Arrow once again did a great job as the films looks great on BD. If you are a fan of 80s slashers definitely pick this up for your collection.

Variously known as Blood Rage (home video version), Slasher (original title card), and Nightmare at Shadow Woods (theatrical cut), this ropey hack-‘em-up took four years to get a US release after having been filmed in 1983. It was hardly worth the wait but there’s some fun to be had in its maniac twins setup.

To be fair, only one of the twins is actually maniacal. When they were kids, Terry butchered a mid-coitus stranger and blamed it on Todd. 10 years later, Todd escapes from his psychiatric unit, apparently on the rampage. But in reality it’s just Terry again, all grown up and getting jealous and enraged about his mom’s engagement. Someone is slaughtering folks in the neighbourhood, and now Terry has the perfect alibi.

Harking from a time when the mentally ill were definitely perpetrators rather than victims, here we have one of those slasher pictures where people are too busy going off into the woods alone to call the police and let them know a murderer is on the rampage.

There’s some cracking gore, although the anxious editing in the theatrical cut means we often get only a glimpse before cutting away to some half-assed Freudian exchange or another teenager soaping in the shower. Stick with the so-called “hard” version (included) for the real deal.

While performances are consistently terrible, Mark Soper as the twins possesses an appropriately unsettling glare, and one-time Woody Allen fave Louise Lasser has an absolute ball as the cripplingly neurotic, boozing mother.

As a work of filmcraft it’s a notch above Troma, but sadly not funny, well-made, or scary enough to land itself a place in a camp Halloween horror medley.

Possibly the film’s greatest pull is the period.
