Product Description

Max Renn (James Woods) is looking for fresh new content for his TV channel when he happens across some illegal S&M-style broadcasts called Videodrome. Arrow video, you have hit the jackpot again, and boy-oh-boy, have you outdone yourselves on this one! Cronnenberg's "Videodrome" gets the full on treatment with this lavish, limited edition Blu Ray/dvd combo package that weighs as much as a house brick, in hand.
Do I need to get into the plot? Not really. Others have, and will, continue to outline it to greater or lesser degree. The extras; this limited edition is literally PACKED, and I mean PACKED, with with all sorts of supplementary material, including four of Cronnenberg's early films/projects which, viewing them now, show you where his ideas were heading. I think these early films are exclusive to this limited edition, as is the 100 page accompanying hardback book, which I haven't read yet, but does look interesting. There are documentaries, interviews, featurettes, discussions, and more. There are 2 Blu Ray discs, and 2 standard definition (dvd) discs. The packaging on this limited edition is SWEET! Great artwork all round here, brought together in digi pak form, and housed in a solid, exterior slip box - like I said, it's feels as heavy as a house brick! It's a faultless package, to be sure.
Guys, and gals, LISTEN UP! This is a LIMITED EDITION that was up for pre order maybe two months, or so, before its release date. There was PLENTY of time to order this edition before it hit the streets. There were those that took the risk not to - some of them lost out. And there were those that played it safe, pre ordered, and got their copy. But limited editions are exactly that - limited! I think this was limited to 3000 copies, and it just so happened that this got gobbled up in no time. Doesn't always happen, but sometimes, just sometimes, that's the way it goes. But don't blame Arrow video for that.

This is certainly one of David Cronenberg's most awesome movies, much more cult classic today than ever, it wasn't very well received back in the day but its one to pick up now for sure, Arrow video released one of their most astonishing box-sets yet!! A fantastic release with practically everything you can possibly want for a fan, The movie itself is a very bizarre horror story that sits alone in terms of genre, its hard to explain but basically Max Renn (James Woods) runs a sleazy TV network that shows sex and violence and he is constantly craving for something harder and something fresh, one day he's introduced to a pirate broadcast called Vidoedrome which shows extreme snuff hard-core murder and torture, in an attempt to track down the source Max begins to slide in and out of reality as Videodrome is taking over his body somehow! The movie is a fantastic showcase for the not notch practical effects of the 80's, fantastic looking make-up and blood and gore in places especially the scene near the end on stage (you will know what I mean) The cast is great, both Woods and Deborah Harry are perfect leads, the soundtrack of course is great and adds so much to the scenes, this is a definitive 80's movie and a must for the collection.

Arrow video Blu-ray looks stunning in HD especially for such an old movie,
Features are endless, you certainly get tons more than your average Blu-ray (box-set) great value for money, So many featurettes and short films etc, hours more entertainment. (Short films on DVD and Blu-ray)
Region B only, DVD movie also included Region 2, 89-mins, 1983.
Limited edition comes in a nice hard box with a 100-page book.

As with other reviewers, I can honestly say this has to be one of the best treatments yet on blu-ray. Superb package which unsurprisingly sold out almost immediately. I don't think Arrow are at fault here, plenty of opportunity was given for pre-orders and they warned that it was selling fast. I do have sympathy for those who missed out, especially as its now at £90 or so.

Possibly one of the greatest Bluray packages for any film yet released. An absolute steal for the price. Picture and sound quality faultless, with more extras than you will believe. This is as good as it gets. Arrow Video have truly set a new bench mark.

Finally, the uk gets the fully uncut version of this classic sci fi horror movie. Videodrome is the ultimate cronenberg film. It combines all of his trademark motifs into one and a half hours of absolute perfection.

Disturbing, thought provoking and beautiful. Alongside john carpenters 1982 remake of the thing this is the ultimate body horror flick. All previous uk versions, apart from a rare laserdisc release in the 90's, omitted or shortened many of the films more violent scenes but the arrow blu ray is fully uncut and the picture quality is fantastic, especially when you consider that the movie is now 33 years old.

The limited edition version is packed with extras, including early cronenberg films, and is well worth the money.

Videodrome - Limited 4 Disc Edition
Blu Ray Review
Videodrome 1982 Directed by David Cronenberg, Starring James Woods, Deborah Harry and Sonja Smits. Arrow Blu-Ray / DVD released: 17th August 2015.
James Woods plays something of a low life television programmer named Max Renn. His television station, Civix TV, Channel 83, televises adult programmes such as softcore pornography over the airwaves. Alongside his partner, a satellite pirate named Harlan (Peter Dvorsky), Renn scans the airwaves for decidedly dodgy shows to broadcast on his station. Harlan discovers a noise shrouded broadcast lasting less than a minute and takes place in a sordid room. The footage contains convincingly realistic sadomasochism and possibly a murder. Renn is drawn to the material and immediately starts to investigate in order to secure the broadcasting of this edgy program called Videodrome. It is during this time that Renn attends a TV debate on a talk show, where he meets fellow guest and radio personality Nicki Brand (Deborah Harry). The couple date and Renn soon discovers that Brand is something of a sadomasochist and is further more turned on by the idea of Videodrome. Renn however, is growing more frustrated in locating the source of the programme and is eventually advised by his agent to drop the project. Additional clips are located by Harlan that continues to feed more into Renn’s growing curiosity. He continues to search for the people behind Videodrome until his path leads him to an encounter with a curious personality known as Brian O’Blivion (Jack Creley). From here on, David Cronenberg’s intriguing film takes a very psychological and disturbing turn. Soon after, Renn begins experiencing headaches and strange hallucinating effects that are the result of Videodrome’s hidden signal.
