Product Description

Product Description

When eight friends become trapped on a remote mountain getaway gone wrong, things quickly turn sinister and they start to suspect they aren’t alone. Gripped by fear and with tensions in the group running high, you’ll be forced to make snap decisions that could mean life or death for everyone involved. Every choice you make while playing as each of the eight friends – even the seemingly trivial ones – will carve out your own unique story.

With spine-tingling performances from a Hollywood cast including Hayden Panettiere (Heroes, Nashville) brought to life with the power of PlayStation 4 – your actions alone will decide who survives Until Dawn.

  • Gripping story – Set at an isolated mountain lodge where nothing is as it seems, 8 friends try to stay alive with a killer on the loose. Players define the relationships between the characters through dialogue and experience the night from their unique point of view. Written in collaboration with famed horror writers and directors Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick, find out who will survive Until Dawn.
  • Next gen Horror – Harnessing the power of an evolved Killzone Shadowfall engine, this 3rd person interactive horror will shock and horrify players thanks to its realistic graphics and edge of your seat gameplay as they navigate their way through a terrifying night. The DualShock 4 motion sensor functionality will track how still you can be whilst in hiding from Until Dawn’s fearsome terrors and the camera will capture player scares as they happen to share with friends.
  • "Butterfly Effect" – Players carve their path to survival with branching story lines which mean that no two stories will be the same. Decisions, big and small, will shape each player’s unique story. Inspired by the chaos theory, the butterfly effect could make trivial split-second decisions ripple into moments of grave peril.
  • Life-and-death moral dilemmas - Place yourself in impossible situations where there is no right or wrong answer. Friend or foe, live or die – make these decisions before it’s too late.
  • Hollywood talent – With spine-tingling performances from a talented cast of Hollywood actors, including Hayden Panettiere (Heroes, Nashville) and Rami Malek, Until Dawn delivers credible performances that forge an emotional bond with players.

I played this game in one sitting that took me roughly 7ish hours including a few minutes between chapters to get my breath back an make tea for myself. I really could not stop playing this game regardless of being so scared. The jump scares, one in particular, had the controller become airborne and had me flying back into my arm chair with my knees firmly pressed against my chest. It got me so good that my arms and legs were a bit wobbly after. That is a first for me, i don't scare easily. i don't gross out easily either and again this game had images in it that made me make a face as if i had slugs in my mouth.

the first half of this game really gave me the same dread that i got from silent hill. Now before anyone slams me for saying that i am aware that they are very different games. but i loved the tank controls and the fixed camera angles, some just gave you serious goose bumps. you really feel like you are being watched. I loved the contrast between the blur and sharp effects that they had for some of these, they gave off a really super pop out 3D effect that let you feel even more isolated. there were lots of little things that characters would do to make it feel very real. for example, Sam (hot chick in the bath) is making her way down the stairs in her bath towel trying to find every one. just as she steps down past a balloon it lifts off the rail and floats away, for no reason. your instinct tells you to stop moving and when i did Sam made this little gesture, she tensed up looking slightly over her shoulder even though she didn't see what just happened but she felt something. I loved that it really added to the situation and made you feel a bit cornered.

What a fantastic game.

Bringing the teen-slasher film to the Playstation, Until Dawn sees 8 friends go to stay in a spooky cabin hidden in the snowy mountains (clearly), but after a lame prank ends in an unthinkable result, the friends are left broken, hurt, betrayed and direction-less. Naturally, the only way to ease the pain is to return to the scene of the crime exactly one year later (well obviously), and so the fantastic Until Dawn begins...

I absolutely loved this game. Despite its unashamed branding, Until Dawn is a masterfully crafted, truly horrifying and scary adventure - far more magnetising and multi-layered than its pseudo-tongue-in-cheek veneer would have you believe. While it is a horror game, it has an atmosphere that I haven’t seen for a while in the genre: akin to when I played the original Resident Evil in 1996.

The immediate thought that comes to mind however, is that Until Dawn is a natural evolution of the Butterfly Effect mechanic seen in Heavy Rain, amongst others. But where predecessors have laid the foundation for such an idea, Until Dawn builds a towering mansion on it. Everything counts in this game - rather than certain key scenes - and even the most insignificant of actions, such as looking at a certain photograph at a certain time, can have a direct effect on whether a character lives or dies later in the game.

The different endings are numerous (apparently over a hundred), but the point is there is no right or wrong way through the story: you simply make your own and, despite its simple premise, Until Dawn is well-deep in its structure. It will keep you guessing for many hours. The first half or so of the story is fantastic, and one of the most engrossing experiences I’ve seen in a while.

I don't know how to play the PS4, nor have I ever played a video game..... so odd for me to be writing a review.
But my other half is a gamer, as in, he gets the biggest releases (Far Cry, Last of Us, new Fifa/Batman games etc) and he'll spend around 30 minutes or an hour in an evening if we're not doing anything.
My fella recently suggested we try Until Dawn as it's a decision based game and he knows I love a good horror film and he thought we could play it together. I've shown interest before when I've watched him play games like Far Cry where I've sat at the side of him a few times usually doing my nails or something commenting that the game feels more like a film and getting a little immersed in it. He showed me the trailer for Until Dawn and asked if I was up for giving it a shot (after clarifying I wouldn't need to do anything with a controller).
It's SOOOOOO amazing. Every evening we're sitting down to complete a chapter, me at the side of him side shouting things like, "glinty object - there over there" - "LEAP" - "Climb", "don't shoot" and then of course the decision making - we stop, scroll though the totems - remind ourselves of the butterflies, come back and reason out what we're going to do (making this sound like a long process - it's not, it's like 3-4 minutes) and we're putting the clues together ourselves and working out what's happened.
We are having the most fun playing this game and I'm enjoying it possibly even more than him! I don't even know how to switch the playstation on, so I'm pestering - "please can we play the playstation tonight" haha, which he thinks is great!
I'm going to be really sad when we've completed it.
