Product Description

Product Description

The ultimate '70s UK horror like you've never seen it before! Legendary British actor Michael Gough stars as Dr. Storm, the depraved proprietor of a 'health hotel' in the English countryside. But when a burned-out rocker (Robin Askwith of Confessions of a Window Cleaner) and his sexy new girlfriend arrive for a relaxing vacation, they'll instead become trapped in a nightmare of psycho bikers, cheeky dwarves, rampant decapitations, gratuitous nudity, lethal luxury sedans and a diabolical plan to create a slave army of lobotomized zombies. Skip Martin (Vampire Circus) and Dennis Price (Theater of Blood) co-star in this bloody/campy cult favorite from writer/director Antony Balch, now transferred in HD from the original 35mm camera negative.Extras include: Robin Askwith is admitted to Horror Hospital for further treatment Audio Commentary with producer Richard Gordon and David De Valle Original Trailer

A rather uncertain 4 stars, as though I enjoyed the film, it perhaps, isn't to everyone's taste, particularly fans of Hammer horrors, but I could be way wrong. This is a 1973 Horror with poor gore, lots of (tame) violence, but a pretty good plot and director Gordon Hessler moves things along at a fast pace. The story is nonsense...Askwith and Vanessa Brown visit the hospital in question for different reasons and fall foul of Cough and Ellen Pollock as the totally dotty owners of said hospital. For once Askwith is just about bearable, and Vanessa Brown is a surprisingly likeable and very sexy actress, who isn't a very good actress, but makes up for it in many other ways, including screaming....a lot. Cough is of course, the savior of the film and is his usual very watchable self. Dennis Price in one of last roles? is slimy and very Dennis Price (those teeth). The print from OEG (ODEON) is very good 16.9 (fills my whole screen) and the sound is good. Extras include shorts with Robin, and an audio commentary, plus a trailer and bits and pieces. No subs. There is a bit of nudity and sex and some swearing, but on the whole I really enjoyed this one, whilst acknowledging it may not be for some horror fans (not quite sure what I am saying here) It's a fun film for adults, and I am tying myself in knots. The End

It's one of those creaky British horrors that always show up on the BBC in the early hours of the morning. The reason for this is that the only ones watching are the drunks staggering in from the pub, or the insomniacs interested in a thrill to pass the time away with. The former are the better off because this is a film where not being of sober mind can only aid the viewing.

It's bonkers in plotting, Robin Askwith (just prior to his shift into a sex comedy franchise) is a stressed out singer with a pop group. He decides to go for some R&R at a country retreat. He hooks up with Vanessa Shaw on the train journey in, and once they arrive at the retreat they find it's a bizarro world inhabited by mute bikers, lobotomised robots, a malignant dwarf and a mad doctor (Michael Gough) in a wheelchair!

That's pretty much it, not much makes sense, there's a little sexy nudity, a whole host of sequences where the zombies do nothing of interest, some scenes of the dwarf (Skip Martin) mixing potions and puddings, and some cool fake fights between Askwith and chums and the crash helmet bikers. It plods along gleefully to the finale's big reveal and chase/escape sequence, to round it off as car crash cinema. Splendidly bad and joyful in subtexts. 5/10
