A team of five criminals rob Camp Pendleton payroll and make off with a million dollars. They hijack a plane, taking the pilot and his daughter hostage, and force them to fly to Mexico. During the flight, one of the robbers parachutes with the loot and the others are forced to give chase. Landing the plane, they stumble across an abandoned house, woods on all sides - and a graveyard full of scarecrows. They are picked off one-by-one as it soon becomes evident the scarecrows are more than just stuffed rags on wooden poles. Each victim killed by the stickmen is doomed to live eternity as a scarecrow and haunt the same evil ground.

The picture quality is roughly equal to that of the original 1988 VHS tape. There are also no extra features. However, considering the film's budget and obscurity, it is just nice to see the film on DVD.

Well all i can say is no, not really. The film is fantastic but the dvd release is let down in so many ways. For one, the film looks like it has been transferred from an old vhs tape, there is no remastering at all by the look of things. Extras? forget it, there's nothing here.

I was so looking forward for this film to arrive, but now i feel slighty ripped off! But if you are a die-hard fan of the film (like i am) then get a second hand copy cheaper. The story is great however, i just wonder why the director/ writer never did a follow up (this was mentioned years ago when the first film was reviewed in gorezone magazine in the 80's).

The film itself is pretty bleak, mostly set in the dark in an abandoned house and the nearby surroundings. It has moments of gore (finger ends bitten off, pitchfork through a hand and so on) to keep the gore hounds happy. If only the dvd had been polished off and some extra's added it would have been a 5 star film, but as it stands- just buy a cheaper second hand copy. Its a shame, this is a wonderful original film!

Here making it's debut on Blu ray is the low budget 80s action/horror crossover Scarecrows. Released through Shout! as part of their Scream! Factory range this is as with all of their titles region A locked meaning that you WILL require a multi-region Blu ray player to view the content on this disc. It is also worth noting that despite the R rating on the reverse of the sleeve this is in actual fact the far gorier unrated version.

Synopsis:
Taking place over the course of just one night, Scarecrows starts out as more of a straight low rent, cliche ridden action film where we are introduced to a band of armed to the teeth paramilitary military types who have just performed a multi million dollar heist and are now on route to Mexico after hijacking a cargo plane captained by a father and daughter. But as the old saying goes there is no honor among thieves as one of the unscrupulous robbers decides he wants all the dough for himself and parachutes from the plane but not before he has flung a grenade down the fuselage. Dealing with the pesky explosive the now increasingly agitated crooks command the pilot to circle the area hoping to ascertain the whereabouts of the jumper so as to take back the loot and exact revenge on their one time comrade. On landing they realise he has little place to hide as the surrounding area is nothing but a vast swathe of farmland with nothing for miles around. The only habitation is an abandoned farmhouse guarded sentinel like by the creepiest looking collection of burlap hooded scarecrows ever committed to celluloid. But as the night progresses our anti-heroes come to realise that the scarecrows do more than just ward of the local crow population and that three in particular are more than just straw stuffed mannequins.Read more ›

Probably the best killer scarecrow movie ever. After a heist one of the criminals jumps from their plane with the money and lands in the forest- the others outraged land the plane and go and look for him. However the forest is covered in scarecrows, only these are alive and kicking and are intent on picking off one by one the criminals.

Scarecrows works because it is a slow burner, acted fairly well, decent dialogue and an eerie atmosphere. The gore is here too and genre fans should be very pleased with this movie. Rewards on repeated viewings. There are no extras with this Region 1 DVD.

A group of militarily trained robbers steal a large amount of money and get away in a plane taking a pilot and his daughter hostage. Greed overcomes one of them and he bales out with the loot and lands on a remote farm. The others soon come after him but they discover the farm has a an awful lot of eerie looking scarecrows. Once night falls, the money is the last thing on their mind as they have to try and survive the night.
Not a bad film, but can be an ordeal trying to find it. Never seen it in any rental stores, which is a shame.

First saw this film by chance about 15 years ago and it left a big impression on me. In short, a bunch of bankrobbers wind up in a remote area where they're attacked by psychotic scarecrows. Doesn't sound too promising on paper, but trust me this film is fantastic.

Excellent performances from the tiny cast (esp. the guy who plays Curry), impressive direction that creates a dark, eerie atmosphere, appropriate sound track and great script.

My favourite bits (you might not want to read this bit if you're intending on watching it)......One of the Scarecrows saying to Burt, "Put the gun down Burt you're not going to hurt us"......Curry going a bit mad in the house and wondering if what was going on was real or if they were all actually dead.......When Burt stops the car, checks under the bonnet only to find the car's been running with no engine.

You know what, i'm going to go over to my video collection, pluck it out and watch it again right now. Truly great film.
