Thaddeus (RZA) is back in this explosive action adventure inspired by Kung Fu classics. A reluctant villager joins forces with a mysterious outsider to fight off powerful evil forces, both earthly and otherworldly, in a 19th Century Chinese mining town.

When a stranger, Thaddeus, is found badly wounded near the village, miner Li Kung (Dustin Nguyen) and his wife Ah Ni (Eugenia Kang) offer him refuge.

As he heals, he becomes entrenched in a conflict that pits the townsfolk against the evil Master Ho (Carl Ng), his nefarious Beetle Clan and the terrifying Lord Pi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa).

With Thaddeus at his side, the mild-mannered Kung transforms into a deadly warrior in this martial arts epic

RZA did a great job writing and directing the first movie, which is sure to become a cult classic some day. Right now it's mocked for being a hip-hop action movie made by rapper RZA from Wu-tang clan and not a serious martial arts film. But in time people will realize the fun to be had within Man with the iron fists. Every actor is hamming it up; from Russell Crowe and Lucy lui to Byron Man who steals the show as the villain. Co-written by Eli Roth this is clearly a movie made by people who love Hong Kong martial arts cinema from the 70s 80s and 90's. It has great music and fights, and flows seamlessly till the end. However; the story is flat, there's little or no suspense or tension, its too mellow for it's own good. And It's not as memorable as Hero, Kill bill, raid 2, Crouching Tiger or Fist of legend. But its well made and stylish.

Man with the Iron fists 2 is a surprisingly enjoyable sequel. The story this time is even more basic than the original, with a typical evil gang controlling a village that needs to be saved by an uprising tale. Once again the best character is the villain, played by Carl Ng who rivals Byron Mann from the first film for over-the-top hammy acting which is just really fun to watch. Fights are just as good as the first despite a lower budget it feels like they've upped the violence, which is a positive. For a straight to DVD B-movie it's superior - once again a treat for martial arts fans and a reminder that martial arts movies used to be interesting and exciting; and when one was released it was a special occasion. I hope a third movie is made. The "Iron Fist Trilogy" just sounds right to me.
