Bounty hunter Jack Walsh has got a new assignment, one that could set him up for retirement. He's just got to get bail-jumping accountant Jonathan 'The Duke' Mardukas back to L.A. by midnight on Friday. But he's not the only one on his trail. The Duke's just embezzled $15 million from the mob who want him dead, trying to get him first are the FBI who want him to testify, five minutes in his company and Jack just wants him to shut up. It's going to be a long journey from New York to L.A.! With a razor-sharp script and performances to match, Martin Brest's cult road movie sees De Niro give one of his greatest comic performances, equally matched by his co-star Grodin.

From Amazon.co.uk

Director Martin Brest rocketed to the top of Hollywood's A list with the blockbuster success of Beverly Hills Cop, and this 1988 follow-up is even better. Midnight Run is a genuine rarity--an action comedy that's dramatically satisfying--thanks to a sharp script by George Gallo, the superb teaming of Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin, and Brest's consummate skill in combining suspense and humour with well-developed characters. De Niro plays a maverick bounty hunter whose latest assignment is Grodin, an accountant accused of embezzling from the Mob. De Niro thinks he's in for an easy job, transporting Grodin (who's afraid to fly) from New York to Los Angeles, but soon discovers that both the FBI and the Mafia are hot on Grodin's trail. Equal parts road trip, action thriller, and a quirky character study, Midnight Run moves at a breakneck pace but still gives De Niro and Grodin time to create rich, memorable performances as two men who seem to be opposites, but gradually develop mutual respect and admiration. Mainstream entertainment at its best. --Jeff Shannon -- Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels.

Midnight Run is one of those films that people wrongly badged on its release and ever since then. This gem of a movie ranks amongst De Niro's best films, certainly one of the funniest.
It is an extraordinary roller-coaster ride full of some of the most memorable and funny one-liners on film. The director, Martin Brest (Beverly Hills Cop, Scent of a Woman) assembled a cast that could not have been bettered - from the two leads (Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin) whose on-screen chemistry is a joy to watch, to the hilarious, malevolent mob boss played to perfection by Dennis Farina (who some will know as Lt Mike Torello of the TV series "Crime Story") and to the double-crossing bail bondsman (the excellent Joe Pantoliano from the "Matrix").

De Niro plays the wronged-ex-cop-turned-bounty-hunter, Jack Walsh, who is conned into his "one last job" to bring in the bail-jumping ex accountant (Grodin) of a Chicago mob boss, who has embezzled $15million from his former employer and given it to charity. From one single event on a plane (Grodin's hilarious "fear of flying" act) the whole film grips you by the throat and does not let you go.
The sheer pace of the film keeps you locked in your seat, waiting to see what happens next. The dialogue comes at you like bullets, but unlike most other films of this genre this is a very polished piece of cinema. The comic timing from each of the actors is perfect. The lines aren't just delivered they are snarled, spat out and slapped across the face. The angst, cynicism and sheer exhaustion conveyed to perfection by each of the main characters creates incredible edges to this film.

The unsung DeNiro classic. The missing 80s masterpiece as regards everything coming together, and simply the best buddy buddy movie that, to me at least, has ever hit the screen.

De Niro & Grodin, there is no other duo in the genre that bounces off each other with the 100% joyful results we get here. They define the term dynamic duo. Director Martin Brest lets his actors do their thing, it is the sort of film where the cast are just happy to be working and use their talent to the max. Be it improv or visually acting in the back ground, both men are at one and in some chemistry zone.

The score from Danny Elfman is like some hybrid western wacky races fusion, but hell it works well. One of Elfman's best ever scores in fact. The dialogue is electric, some of the script is so sharp it should be put away in a sharps box and labelled up as to be opened whilst wearing gloves. The rest of the cast are uniformly brilliant, be it the wonderful John Ashton as rival bounty hunter Marvin, the menacing yet cheekily attired Dennis Farina as mob boss Jimmy Serrano, or Yaphet Kotto as the constantly irritated FBI agent Alonso Mosely, it's pretty much a flawless cast in optimum gear.

The rating on the big movie sites, though high enough, is still a disgrace, I can only think that DeNiro fans really didn't want to see him doing a comedy? Well I say they are wrong! Because this film shows that the great man once had much to give the comedy/action splinter of film. Perhaps he just needed the perfect foil of Charles Grodin alongside him? Either way this film is smart, funny, even tender at times (I defy all to not be touched deeply during a daughter/father reunion).

This is the story of a bounty hunter (De Niro) trying to get to LA with white collar criminal (Grodin) to collect a million dollar bounty. Unfortunately for him though, not only his bounty ann incessant pain in the ass but he's also got the mob, the Feds and another bounty hunter all trying to stop him collecting his pay check.
Midnight Run is a rare gem, a top class action comedy with one of the most unusual screen "buddy" partnerships in cinematic history, which has sadly been somewhat overlooked by the majority of people and that's a great shame because it boasts great characters, great comedy, great action scenes, a wonderful plot and a brilliant script with stand-out performances from Dennis Farina, Charles Grodin and in particular Robert De Niro who proves what a great comedic (as well as character) actor he is.
Expertly directed by Martin Brest, who directed Beverly Hills Cop (and Scent Of A Woman), this is in my opinion a much better movie than the much lauded Eddie Murphy movie and a must see, particularly if you are a fan of Robert De Niro. In fact it is so good I'd give the movie five stars if it weren't for the lack of extras on the DVD but (especially at a budget price) this is definitely one well worth adding to your collection.

This is pure genius. This film stars one of my favourite stars. This film incorporate action, suspense and rib-splitting comedy, it involve Robert DeNiro and a run across America, dodging planes because his hostage has a fear of flying (apparently), dropping in unexpectedly on the woman he divorced and hasn't seen in quite a while, catching trains, robbing bars and keeping a few steps ahead of the feds, the mob and a bounty hunter intent on cashing in himself. It thrills and spills all the way through not the most interesting form of comedy you wouldn't have thought but it is, it really is, the acting is phenomonal, the director captures the action with flair
(Martin Brest) and the film as a whole is a must see in anyones book. Honestly, seriously get a copy now!
