Product Description

Product Description

An original UK 'video nasty' Ulli Lommel's creepy classic, THE BOGEY MAN, returns to British shelves in this stunning HD remaster - completely uncut and uncensored!

In this eighties slasher-sickie the spirit of a sleazy psycho-sexual madman is trapped in a mirror during the night of his death. Years later and this evil entity is freed when the glass is destroyed - allowing our invisible prowler to slice and dice his way through a bevy of helpless teenagers and the family of the people who caused his untimely demise. Featuring a cameo appearance from horror legend John Carradine, and an alluring leading lady turn from the sexy Scream Queen Suzanna Love, THE BOGEY MAN was a critical and commercial smash hit upon its original 1980 release.

Now, decades after this sleeper spook-show first disturbed censors across the world, THE BOGEY MAN is ready to haunt your living room all over again. Don't say you weren't warned!!!

The blu ray restoration has worked wonders for this movie , the picture is now probably as clear as it ever will be with an excellent sound as well , ok not the greatest or most notorious on the old video nasty's list but a good film with at least a different angle on the slasher picture. 2 abused children take revenge on the man they hold responsible for their mothers and her lovers cruelty , the son kills him and his evil spirit manifests in a mirror which years later they get left in their mothers will , the mirror gets broke and releases the evil spirit who tries to kill as many as possible , this is only a vague description as it is worth a watch and don't want to spoil your entertainment . As the label it's been released on has a habit of not doing many copies don't delay and buy it now before the mercenaries on ebay start charging stupid prices just because it is out of print or OOP as they put it

This is a great Blu-ray release. The Blu-ray comes with a nice red case, not your normal size, this is the thin case. The inlay(cover) is reversible, one side you see in the picture above(uk) and the inside is The BOOGEY MAN(usa), which for me is the best because this side seems more 80's. It comes with a nice little six page booklet(in the name of love) a discussion with suzanna love.

The Blu-ray picture quality is very nice, it gets a 4/5 from me, the sound is in DTS-HD MA 2.0 and sounds perfect, the ratio is WIDESCREEN 1:78:1, plus the disc is region-free. A.B.C.

The film itself is very good and one of my 80's favourites, I think its because the film is more horror than a slasher with the killer being a invisible entity, rather than a man in a mask, this for me adds to the scare factor. The film has some dodgy effects, but this just gives charm to the film. There are some good features on the disc, I have listed them below.

***BONUS FEATURES***

T.V. Spots
88 Films trailer reel
The Bogey Man Trailer

This is the best this classic slasher/possession flick has looked in many years, although not the best release as it uses different HD prints and that is clear in places but we have to remember this is an old film and was banned in the UK for many years. The gore can be better but that really isn't the meat of the film, the red cases are great and I love how they revisited the original VIPCO cover.

Cool horror film from 1980 and very impressed with 88 films regarding the film transfer, they certainly pulled out all the stops on this one.

88 Films have yet released another classic horror on Blu-ray and it looks great, amazing picture quality on this one! The Boogey man (or The Bogey man in the UK) is about a young boy and his sister who are mistreated by their mothers boyfriend, one night the boy stabs him to death, cut 20 years later still haunted by the nightmares of what her brother did Lacey begins to realise something more sinister happened that night, something to do with the mirror, after a visit to her old house to try and get closure she discovers the force within the mirror is still alive and she must fight it again as it kills everyone around her, its an unusual story and plays out in a strange way that you figure things out throughout the movie, there is plenty of bloody moments and violence, all the effects look good for the time, the cast is good, overall its a decent 80's movie, this will more appeal to hard-core 80's slasher fans of course, certainly worth picking this up on Blu-ray!

The picture quality is great. 1080 HD.
Special features lack a little bit but you get an interview with the director, trailers, TV spots, booklet with 7 pages of text.
Reversible sleeve with original art.
Region FREE ABC, 85-mins run time, 1980.
Comes in the usual cool slim red case.

An often overlooked little gem, Bogey Man has finally seen the light of day in a decent and uncut HD print. Sure, clarity and detail are occasionally dodgy and generally not on a par with the likes of your modern day blockbuster blu-ray releases. But they was never going to be - this is a low budget, early '80's exploitation flick and, as such, was expected to be around for a few weeks in the fleapits of the day, then disappear into the mists of time never to be seen again. I strongly suspect that the very last thing the makers expected was for people to still be viewing it some thirty odd years later. And if you keep those limitations in mind, it is a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Picture is fine for its age and origins, sound (the original mono, thankfully, not some tarted up multi channel remix) is solid and undistorted. Extras are OK, but rather limited. However, for the price Amazon are now charging, this is a real steal.
