Lets face it, the only point of actually owning Rabid Grannies is for the over the top gore and general slime- which is still in 2013 banned by the BBFC.

The film itself is very average- basically about two grannies who get sick and turn into zombie like creatures, eating and munching their way through guests one evening.

It's a Belgian low budget movie, which has been at times badly dubbed. But like I say the movie has a cult following for the gore moments. They take their time and are few and far between, buy yes there pretty good.

Back in the 80s, they were probably more of a shock than they really are, but there still pretty enjoyable to watch now. I have no idea why the movie is still banned in the UK- It has a tongue in cheek feel to it, much like Braindead and Bad Taste- yet those you can buy. Just wondering if thats down to the Peter Jackson connection.

So, if you're a gorehound the price for this movie is worth getting.
You get 2 discs here, one is the full movie, the other is an edited version, 12 mins less running time- cuts out the chit chat, and there are quite a few extras on the disc too.

What could be more fun than banging a load of people in an enclosed space and killing them off? If there getting killed off by their demon possessed grannies thats what!

Ultra low budget and kinda simlair to the italian film Demons, this is a riot all the way through. Some really funny scenes (when the grannie throws her own liver at the waitor who slips on it nad goes through the window!) and some quite freaky scenes to (when the grannie is holding her granddaughter like a doll after eating her legs yuck!)

Great fun even thou the dvd says its uncut it is not, its the region 2 release. But dont worry the extras have all the gorey cut scenes to watch in one show real!Even in this form (nad as far as i know this is the only version out) its a must see.

Rabid Grannies is a very bizarre movie - apparently of Belgian origin but "set" in England and dubbed into English post production, it tells the story of two elderly spinsters (who are referred to as aunties throughout the movie, but as the film's title calls them grannies, let's stick with that) who invite all their money-grabbing relatives over for a birthday party, but things descend into madness when a mystery birthday gift turns the two "grannies" into bloodthirsty demons!

So lets talk about the film first of all. First and foremost, the script and dialogue make this film a comedy, part unwittingly and part by design. When the head cook sees a demonic granny burst through a door and says "Oh no - the lobster must have been off!" (or something similar), then you know this film was made tongue in cheek. But aside from that, the dubbing of ALL the dialogue is completely off kilter, reportedly because the voice actors couldn't find a way to speak normally while trying to match the insane mouthings of the cast on film, but still, the results could have been better than this! No matter, we all like a laugh.

The story itself is little more than a prolonged massacre, as once the grannies transform, all that happens for the remainder of the plot is that all the other characters try and escape, and of course a lot of them die in gruesome ways. The action is all set inside an ornate country house, which at least looks authentic, even if the characters do not.

Now onto the DVD version and the cuts. I'm going to compare the cut and uncut scenes here - so this means the next paragraphs contains spoilers.

The Troma version, it has to be said, is fit for nothing but the trash. With almost all the gore and violence cut out, it's impossible to enjoy the film.

This is one of TROMAs more best selling and more well known titles, it's an ultra low-budget, comic horror which was made in Belgium and was dubbed by a british cast and Troma had the nerve to release it in the states (probably due to it's ultra stupid title.)
It's about a bunch of extremely greedy relatives who all take a trip to their auntes (not grannies!) house because it's their birthdays, expecting them to read the will. They think they're going to get their hands on a lot of money, instead they get into a heap of trouble as the uninvited blacksheep of the family, involved in some satan worshipping cult sends them a little present, transforming them into hideous, grotesque demons.
The acting is dreadful, extremely dreadful. You will be laughing at how they act instead of the supposedly funny dialogue.
The effects aren't too bad cosidering the size of the budget, the UK release of the film has been cut.
Apart from the pretty dire acting and the laughable effects, it's still pretty fun to watch. Even though it's not one of Troma's best efforts...
