Hammer create such excellent films, and this is no exception. To each their own but I personally loved this film. Its got just about everything spooky within it to great effect that you'd expect from a paranormal film. I've watched a lot of films over the years and have seen the first 'Woman in Black' one too, which was amazing, but this one - 'The Woman in Black: Angel of Death' (what a great title) - wow, it completely blew me away with how eerie and atmospheric it is. Eel Marsh House has: creaking doors, effective camera angles, creepy music, a haunted 'feel' to things throughout, corner of the eye shadows and spectral sightings, scary mirror effects, very creepy dolls (ugh, argghh hate them) and much, much more; even causing me at one point to jump and almost drop my cup of coffee, lol. The quality of acting from the lead characters is truly golden and the main child character, Edward, is a young actor (Oaklee Pendergast) to watch in the future because he's fantastic and conveys a very convincing mood, even if he doesn't speak throughout most of the film. Eve (Phoebe Fox) is very good too. The headmistress, Jean, (Helen McCrory) gets quite a few surprises as a sceptic of paranormal things, and one scene is superb, hehe, it made me jump (again). Great stuff! I watched it alone and genuinely felt unnerved, which I'm not usually. So for a film to affect me like that means I really enjoyed it and really got into it.

The imagery and music, the creepy-looking buildings, dark and mysterious waters which hold a secret and many other things make this film one that'll have the hairs on the back of your neck standing up during several moments and the ghostly encounters of child spirits and the woman in black herself make this a very creepy film indeed, I think.

A reasonable sequel to a reasonable prequel yet so close to the original I didn't realize it was a sequel as until I read the reviews it felt more of a reasonable remake.

The eerie atmosphere was almost there though to be fair that atmosphere was mainly made up of dirt and a lack of good lighting alongside some screechy sound effects. I didn't find this had the jump factor an awesome supernatural movie could have, but those are ever so rare anyway so it didn't ruin this for me.

What this movie did have was a good story line and that is what I look for first when I'm looking for something to watch, I'm not one of these people that wants a movie to be almost entirely composed of CGI and stuntmen. As much as I liked this movie, I really hope they don't make a 3rd if it is going to be on the same basis as this one where it just feels like an ever so slightly modernized version of the first one. Still, this is worth watching.

With the first film being such a success and one of my favourite horror films this sequel could have been as pointless as Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. So i didnt really care to watch it. I was pleasantly surprised in what turned out to be a good ghost story, Pleasing cast that you actually care about but it would have been nice if we could have got to know the children better.

It was always going to be difficult to bring back the Angel of Death or the Woman in Black after the high standards set by the original. Yet for me this is a sequel worth seeing, which thankfully doesn't stray too much from the novel of the same name. No bravura performances but still room for some jump out of the seats moments.

I am not one for "spin-offs" and this is a spin off from teh excellent Susan Hill"s Woman in Black which should be seen in the theatre for full effect. I have seen the play eight times and I still jump and am apprecihensive of parts, even though I know what is coming!

This film, which is ten times better than the Woman in Black with Daniel Radcliffe, has its moments. But the production is poor and I saw this at home and to get the full effect you need a very darkened room or you will miss seeing the Woman in Black when she appears in the scenes as the production lighting is poor. I missed the Woman a number of times and believe me I was really looking for her.

The story still follows the same lines of the play and the first Woman in Black film but though I did jump, it was only at one scene early on. It lacked bite and a convincing story for me.

If you do want to get the real thrill of "Woman in Black" go see it in a Edwardian or Victorian theatre. The screen and DVD cannot do it justice.

I must say firstly that I love the original 1989 TV movie, it was atmospheric and effective and the ghost's appearances were really memorable, especially in the church and the graveyard. I have also read the original story by Susan Hill and seen the stage play which was excellent.
The 2012 Hammer reboot was a decent effort, I watched it on the day of release and although I did like it I felt some of the final scenes were unnecessary but they were making a film for a different generation so I made allowances for that. It did feature some decent scenes where the ghost appeared in the background and that more than rescued the film for me, helped by the fact that a lot of time was spent in the town of Crythin Gifford as Arthur Kipps looks into the background of the Drablow family and begins to realise the fear his visit has caused.
The 2014 sequel Angel of Death didn't appeal to me at all, largely based on the trailers I saw on imdb, the ghost had seemingly become more of a background character. The idea of a group of world war 2 child evacuees being packed off to Eel Marsh House was clever, unfortunately not enough was made of it. There's a few false jump scares as you would expect in any ghost story but it's more of a tale of redemption than an actual horror movie. There's nothing but a brief mention of Crythin Gifford here and although a little more is learned about the tragic background story of Jennet Humfrye that should have been the driving force of this story.
