Tom Sharky' (Burt Reynolds) is a no-nonsense cop, working in the narcotics division in the the Atlanta Police
Department.
However when his actions lead to civilian casualties he's sent down-stairs to work in Vice...
'Sharky' doesn't take demotion well and still wants to go after the big-fish out there, he's used to doing things
his way.
During a steak-out watching the activities and contacts that frequent 'Dominoe's (Rachel Ward) appartment
'Sharky' witnesses a killing, he believes it is the high-class hooker that's taken the hit.
Though not the senior officer, 'Sharky' brings the team on-board, rather than hand the case over to 'Homicide'
they want to solve the case themselves, they go after gang-land boss 'Victor D'Anton Scorelli' (Vittorio Gassman)
and his hit-men....a newly elected politician is also in 'Sharky's' sights.
'Rachel Ward' putting the glamour into the 1981 offering.
This is an often violent 80's cop-movie which will, for sure bring back many memories of the movie-scene back
then.
There is an element of tension along with the humour 'Burt Reynold's' often brought to the screen, 'Sharky' doesn't
always trade pleasantries he trades bullets.
The Blu-ray version of the film at this time is 'Import' but can be purchased at a reasonable price, the good news
for fans of 80's cop-movies such as this is the film is 'Region-Free'
Picture Quality is a little below-par at times but certainly superior to the DVD version.

Burt Reynolds at his tough guy best.Love his comedy movies from the 70s and 80s but I think he's at his best playing the tough guy roles.Just wished he 'd made a film with Charles Bronson in the early to mid 70s.Blu Ray edition has great picture quality but really disappointing there's no commentary from Burt himself.Even lacks an interview with the legend.Blu Ray does play on UK players.Check out other Burt tough guy roles in Stick,Malone,Heat,Shamus,Mean Machine,Fuzz,Hustle,Dan August,Rent a Cop,Gator,White Lightning,Run Simon Run,Hunters are for the killing,The man who loved car dancing,Deliverance ,WW and the Dixie DanceKings ,and Physical Evidence.

A great Burt movie, with a few idiosyncratic touches (Henry Silva's bizarre hitman!), a wonderful cast of great character actors and a steamy Atlanta backdrop... okay, there's a few weak elements (Rachel Ward, the meandering middle section) but it's still pretty great and better than Burt's directorial follow-up Stick, which has a similar flavour but is weaker in every respect (although it got messed with by the studio).

Great bluray: region-free, cheap and decent picture quality.

Sharky's Machine. Blu-ray, U.S release R-rated. 1981.
Hard boiled cop action, Burt's excellent, drags in the
middle, seriously drags in the middle but it's still
a great watch. This U.S release is uncut.
Run time:2hr 2min. Extras:trailer.
Nearly forgot, the picture quality's excellent,
widescreen 1.85:1.
