Will Ferrell is about to be an inmate in a federal penitentiary and Kevin Hart is his prison survival coach in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Get Hard also starring Alison Brie, Tip “T.I.” Harris, and Craig T. Nelson. Is the duo of Ferrell and Hart comedy gold or is it a crime that this flick was even made?

Will Ferrell is probably one of my favorite people to watch in movies. He’s the biggest comedic powerhouse of modern times. He’s absolutely insane and has zero qualms about embarrassing himself for a laugh. I’ve been a fan of his since his days at Saturday Night Live. I’m also a huge fan of his roles in Old School, Anchorman, and one of my all-time favorites, Step Brothers.

Kevin Hart is one of the biggest rising stars in the stand up comedy world. Known for his small stature and quick wit, Kevin is now walking down the path of success that comedians like Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, and Chris Rock have paved.

In Get Hard, Will Ferrell plays James King, and ultra rich stock broker who is engaged to his boss’ smoking hot daughter played by Allison Brie. Everything in life is going fine until James is arrested for multiple counts of fraud. Knowing he’s completely innocent, James refuses to take a plea deal, but ends up with a maximum sentence of ten years in San Quentin State Prison. The Judge gives James thirty days to settle all his affairs. Knowing that he has the absolute highest probability of being raped and/or murdered in jail, he hires the only black guy he knows, Darnell the guy who washes his car played by Kevin Hart. James just assumes Darnell has been to prison just because he’s black, but Darnell just follows along with his naive thinking because he needs money to move into a better neighborhood for the sake of his family’s safety.

I must give this movie a review because the 2 people who gave it 1 star obviously don't have a sense of humour and they give other people who want to see it a wrong impression, this movie is very enjoyable, sit back and relax and forget about the real world for 1hr 30mins, you will enjoy it

A millionaire hedge fund manager is framed for fraud & sentenced to maximum security prison. But he isn't cut out for prison life, and seeks out help to prepare him to Get Hard! Comedy & mayhem ensue.

Overall Get Hard is an unlikely buddy comedy, combining Wall Street & gang/prison life. The premise is interesting & there are some smart ideas, despite it's silly, predictable nature. The fraud story line slowly turns into a sub plot, with the movies main focus on the silly "Get Hard!" comedy material. With 30 days to get his affairs in order, James King (Will Ferrell) realizes he wont survive, so strikes a mutual agreement & hires cash strapped luxury car valet manager Darnell Lewis (Hart) to train him. Based on James's stereotypical perception of black people & prison time, which an outraged, albeit squeaky clean Darnell agrees too pretend to be, in order to pocket $30k. Turning James's Beverly Hills mansion into a makeshift prison, with the staff getting their own back as prison guards. Darnell tries his best to get James into shape, train him to be alert & fight. Which doesn't go well, with hilarious consequences as you'd expect. Add in gross out worse case scenario training, and attempting to get protection from street gang's, with funny side effects.

The acting is reasonably good all round. Will Ferrell plays the arrogant, yet likable & gullible James King to a tee that he's fun to watch & easy to root for. Kevin Hart is also on good form as the other end of the spectrum " Hollywood luxury bubbles" valet manager, whose bark is worse than his bite. They work together & apart well, albeit the material doesn't always help them in places, the odd bit of ad lib that didn't pop & a few scenes that arguably went on a bit too much longer than necessary.

The whole family loved this movie. It's quite tender hearted underneath the crude jokes but it also uses all the stereotypes that are still very much alive in American society. Silly and crude at times but also clever in showing how right wing and racist Americans really are.

James King (Will Ferrell) is a rich broker on his way to jail. Darnell (Kevin Hart) washes his car. King has got 30 days to get his affairs in order and hires Darnell (Kevin Hart) to teach him to "get hard" so he won't be bullied (or worse) in prison. Most of the film consists of Hart teaching Ferrell a bunch of dumb stuff doing racial and gay humor. Eventually they get around to gee, maybe he is innocent, let's figure this out.

Most of the humor was juvenile. Some scenes they carried out too long. The disgusting scenes tended to be short. I admit that I had to laugh out loud several times during a film that the audience certainly enjoyed more than I did. At times I felt I was watching "48 Hours" meets "Trading Places." I am not a fan of either star in this film. They can't act and individually I don't find them funny. They seemed to do well acting as a straight man for each other so neither one hogged the scene. Soft 4 stars.

Guide: F-bomb, sex. Brief nudity including Ferrell's butt or body double.
