Product Description

Crack CIA agent CARRIE MATHISON plays by her own rules when it comes to protecting the U.S. from terrorist attacks. Her uncanny intuition, dogged determination, and gift for persuasion helped her identify Nicholas Brody as a terrorist and convert him to an ally. She also headed the operation to capture and kill al-Qaeda mastermind Abu Nazir, and turned the man responsible for the CIA bombing, Majid Javadi, into an invaluable U.S. asset. Along the way, she fell in love with Brody and became pregnant with his child, which made his arrest and execution that much more traumatic for her. Now with a baby to raise and a fast-tracked career as an overseas station chief, Carrie is forced to make difficult choices about the direction she wants her life to take. Meanwhile, SAUL BERENSON, Carrie's long-time, no-nonsense mentor, has been forced into retirement. Will he be able to stay in the intelligence game and keep tabs on his protégé while working for a private security firm in New York?

I thought that series four of Homeland was a mixed bag with the earliest episodes not quite up to standard and the later ones being among the best in the shows history (apart from the final episode). The relationship between Carrie and the much younger Aayan was uncomfortable to watch and largely cringe inducing. I also found Quinn's sudden infatuation with Carrie a bit odd and this seemed a desperate way to create another Brody type angle. Really, I was starting to have serious doubts with how this series could hold my interest. Then episode eight happened.

This episode gripped like a vice and the series went from strength to strength. Full of tension, very well acted and Homeland became the best drama on TV again. I was disappointed with the underwhelming final episode so this was for me an inconsistent series but when it was good it was very good.

It's often a fairly relentless downward arc for high action TV series as the seasons roll by with the plots, twists and special effects getting ever bigger and more unlikely in an attempt to top what has gone before. Homeland cleverly avoided this fate with Season 4 by doing the opposite: less action, more thought; fewer fireworks, greater space for the characters to develop.

It starts slow, which makes the sudden twists and action - which are still there, just not dolloped all over the plots like a kid let loose on a plate of chips with a ketchup bottle - all the more tense and exciting when they come. There's a fair amount of implausible plotting and questionable characters, true, but also some great action, real tension and a good sense of mystery about how the plot is going to play out. There's also a refreshing range of nuance about the records of Americans, Pakistanis and Afghans with few straightforward good guys who always do the humane thing.

The one disappointment for me was the rather too neat final episode which felt like a rotation around all the main characters and plot lines, neatly lining them up for a next season (which is indeed coming, hooray).

There are certain series that just stand out as brilliant television and certain episodes within those series that are the best television I've ever watched.
I'd say that the last episide from the 1st series of House wad the finest piece of scriptwriting, acting and production I've ever watched but the second episode of this series ranks right up there with it.
Homeland is, at heart, action orientated but Quinn and his fling with the manageress of the motel stunned me. The writing about this relationship was complex, honest and true. The acting was outstanding and it added great depth to Quinn's character development. I've never seen anything so raw and meaningful.

The rest of the story is excellent and should inform American audiences about the truth of the matter in Pakistan and Afghanistan. They're not and never were the enemy.

Watch the series and be informed, educated and entertained all at once.

Loved Homeland ever since watching season 1. I wasn't expecting too much from season 4 and wondered how it could be as good without one of the main characters. However both me and my wife thought this was at least as good if not better than season 1. Its non-stop action from the start, an adrenalin rush of twists and turns. You positively hate some of the characters and love others. Its frustrating, exciting and just brilliant entertainment. I write this just as season 5 is about to air on TV but I struggle to see how it can possibly top this brilliant season. If you have watched season 1 to 3 and are unsure whether to get this or not, don't hesitate, just get it. You will not be dissapointed.

For me, seasons 1 and 2 were excellent. Season 3 lost the plot in my opinion, and I started to watch season 4 not sure what to expect, or if I was even going to enjoy it. Wow, what a comeback! The pace builds gradually and it returns to the breath-holding, intense form of the early seasons. Loved it, until...

What one EARTH was the last episode about? It had built up so fantastically that I thought (and completely expected) the last episode to have you screaming at the TV because you had to wait for season 5! But no, what a utter and complete let down. It's as if the writers' were trying to tie everything together all nicely and sedately, and Carrie and Quin's characters seemed completely out of character! Episode 12 had me gob-smacked in a bad way.

What a shame they decided to end it like that...

Natural extension to the fast running previous series. Good plot lines but be aware not to fall into the previous traps of these types of series where the bands of coincidence start to test each other. Claire acts fine but the writers need to also watch how much she is required to be 'on the brink'. There are some times her character does things that any fully trained and time served CIA operative would not logically do.
