Product Description

Product Description

Based on the New York Times' best-selling novel, LEFT BEHIND is an apocalyptic action thriller starring Academy Award® Winner Nicolas Cage. Directed by Vic Armstrong (Amazing Spiderman, Jack Ryan - Shadow Recruit, Indiana Jones) and also starring Chad Michael Murray, Cassi Thomson, Nicky Whelan and Jordin Sparks.

A small group of survivors are left behind after millions of people suddenly vanish and the world is plunged into chaos and destruction. Trapped at 30,000 feet, veteran airline pilot Ray Steele (Nicolas Cage - Con Air) must fight to protect the passengers that remain on his flight. Running out of fuel and with his equipment failing, Ray needs to safely guide the plane with the help of news reporter Cameron (Chad Michael Murray - One Tree Hill) who takes over the role of co-pilot in the face of the crisis.

On the ground, Ray's terrified daughter Chloe (Cassi Thompson - Big Love) braves the bedlam of the city streets in search of her lost brother and mother.

I should have left this behind at the shop. What utter garbage. The film, you would think would have some clout due to Nicolas Cage's presence, but there were times that even Cage had that "what the hell am I doing" look on his face. Don't expect thrills, spills, explosions and the idea of disaster. I thought this was indeed some end of the world disaster movie. The film, in short, is nothing more than an endorsement of religion ---- believe in god when the world nears its end and god will take you to heaven. Fail to do so, burn in hell ---- blah blah blah. Just the bible masquerading as a disaster movie, and a very low budget one at that. Expect to see it popping up on SYFY in the near future. This is without doubt one of Cage's worse films. Shoddy acting, terrible dialogue, poor editing, lame screenplay, cheap FX. But there was one action scene for Cage... when he slides down the aircrafts inflatable chute at the end. That's it basically.

The film was flayed by critic's and indeed has received mixed reviews, i myself have followed 'Nicolas Cage'
movies for many years, as I'm sure many have, i just want to be entertained and watch movies with that in mind.
(The review does have a basic-flow of the story-line)
'Ray Steele' (Nicolas Cage) an airline pilot is about to fly passengers from 'New York' to 'London' this day....
It's his birthday his wife had planned a celebration, however he's accepted the task having perhaps selfish motives
for doing so.
Before boarding he briefly meets up with his daughter 'Chloe' (Cassi Thompson) which he'd not expected, before
which she'd rescued reporter 'Buck' (Chad Michael Murray) from a lady telling him that all the signs were in place
for a catastrophic happening.
'Ray' has been playing away with a flight attendant.
Reporter 'Buck' is among the passengers on-board 'Ray's' London bound flight.
'Chloe's' mother is among those that have predicted the end of days though daughter 'Chloe' and husband 'Ray' do
not share her beliefs.
Tales of doom begin to become reality, people disappearing including 'Chloe's' younger brother who'd she'd been at
the local shopping centre with.
On-board the flight several passengers also go missing, causing panic, the plane is 30,000 feet up in the air, where is
there for these people to have gone ??
The passengers have no idea that what has occurred on-board has also happened below, where, panic, is widespread.
'Chloe' is unable to find her brother, whilst unexplained things happen around her, she also needs to find her mother.
In the air, 'Ray' has been unable to make contact with control and is as equally confused as his remaining passengers.

To be fair, you can’t expect a lot for £3 and again, to be fair, the action is not bad in this. I’m fond of sci-fi films with lots of whizz bang boom and this has a goodly ration BUT it’s not one that Nick Cage can be proud of.
I found it a bit annoying.
I’m going somewhat into spoiler territory here so stop reading if you don’t want to know.
The basic premise that all the good Christians suddenly get called off to go to Heaven leaving all the non-Christians, general-non-believers and bad people to wonder WTF is completely and utterly stupid, although it does seem to me that there’s an excessively strong belief in a rather preachy, self-righteous Christianity pervading America at the moment - and everyone else is wrong…
And I don’t know if Cage is a rabid Christian or not but it seems that this film has been made with the express intention of pointing the finger and saying, “Repent ! The time is nigh! Only ye who believe in the late, great JC will be saved.”
No hope for me then?

This film takes a formula of the most intentionally low budget, low quality 70s disaster D movie, and sticks Cage into it.

It's easy to think that this film has more to do with the strange lengths Cage will go to to avoid being typecast, while making 5 times as many movies than any other Hollywood name, than anything else.

You could say it's utterly terrible, and, really, it is, actually.
But when that's completely the point, I don't know, it's another story maybe.
One relents and finds it something to laugh at, which is only why it was made, it looks like.

EXCEPT - it is quite interesting in some ways.

Not just Sci-fi, the film elevates the movie context of actual spiritual / religious / real biblical prophecy film to a much wider audience than who would usually come across this.

It's a bit like watching some rather obscure, particular Christian cult's school teaching movie to "explain to" (or frighten) young children that end of times Biblical prophecy is real, true and expected to happen literally, rather than figuratively.

Which is unusual and kind of interesting.
In a way it's kind of a new escapism, using this unfamiliar context for many people.
(I suppose for the Christians who agree it is something very different!)

While the film may not be set up actually to poke fun obviously at those who believe in biblical prophecies, it does occupy a strange ground somewhere between fully genuine and perhaps, perhaps approaching the "blasphemous".

It's just when you remember that the film HAS to be intentionally a lot of a porker and knowingly silly and ridiculous, I guess it seems the type of film changes.
