*****Spoiler Alert*****

The Boy Next Door is a psychological thriller by Barbara Curry and directed by Rob Cohen. Claire (Jennifer Lopez) is a school teacher that discovers that her husband Garrett (John Corbett) is having an affair with his secretary. Her best friend and colleague Kate (Kristin Chenoweth) tries to talk her into a divorce. Claire bumps into Noah (Ryan Guzman), the orphaned nephew of her new elderly neighbour. Claire's son Kevin becomes friends with Noah, who starts to attend Kevin's school, the same school that Claire works as a Teacher. Noah finds himself attracted to Claire and tries to impress her by telling her of his love for Homer's Lliad. Kevin and Garrett go on a fishing trip and Claire finds herself spying on the naked Noah from her bedroom window.

Claire agrees to go on a date with Kate and her boyfriend Ethan (Travis Shuldt) who bring along Cooper (Brian Mahoney). The date is a flop however and Claire storms out on the self centred Cooper and returns home. Later that night, Noah calls Claire and asks for her help with cooking a chicken. Claire goes to him and they end up having dinner together. Noah has more on his mind however, and begins to seduce the vulnerable Clare and finally gets her into bed.

Claire awakes and immediately regrets her infidelity and hurriedly dresses and leaves. Kevin and Garrett return home from their fishing trip and find Clare trying to distance herself from Noah. Kevin likes Noah however, and begins to spend more and more time alone with him. Noah is determined to make sure Clare pays for turning her back on him and begins to poison Kevin's mind against her and Garrett. However, Claire is sure that things will calm down, once she has spoken to Noah face to face.

It soon becomes clear however, that Noah has a dark side and doesn't intend to quietly slip away into the night etc etc.5/10

The critics were very unkind to this movie, with one refusing to give it even one star, but luckely I saw the trailer on the internet, and as I prefer thrillers I thought I would give it a try. I'm so glad I did as I throughly enjoyed it. Ok, the guy playing the near 20 year old looked 27, but he was so good I will let that pass. Jo Lo was perfect of course and so was the entire cast. The best movie since Gone Girl, although not quite in that class. I have lived long enough now to ignore critics, I can well remember them condemning Psycho, now they give it 5 stars. So if you like thrillers see it.

As mentioned by others, this thriller follows a fairly predictable plot. It's the sort of thing you might watch and wonder if you've seen the film before. Chances are you haven't, it's just that it pans out like similar films of this nature: girl gets involved with psycho and all hell breaks loose.

That said, it still manages to create tension and, over all, it's not too bad. J Lo isn't a bad actress and Ryan Guzman makes a decent fist of the job of resident psycho. I wouldn't want to watch it a second time but it's reasonably entertaining and I wouldn't class it as a waste of time.

By no means is this the perfect movie, but 2015's 'The Boy Next Door' is nevertheless an enjoyable little stalker thriller, which I found very easy to watch, and instantly become absorbed in it. Once again, with it's similar plotline, this is like an inferior, lower-budget 'Fatal Attraction'.

When Claire (Jennifer Lopez), the recently cheated-on-by-her-husband high-school teacher and mother accepts the advantages of 19-year-old Noah (Ryan Guzman), she soon finds herself regretting their passionate night together, especially when she find herself fighting off his increasingly strange behaviour, which quickly leads to a scary, and dangerous obsession.

Although cheesy and unrealistic in most places, as well unoriginal, and increasingly predictable, there are strong performances, especially from the two leads, several laugh-out-loud moments, although i expect that they weren't actually intentional, and the film, perfect if you want to watch something which doesn't require you to think, does offer an entertaining 87 minutes. 'The Boy Next Door' is worth a watch for certain, and demonstrates, rather dramatically (but this is of course a movie), how one moment of careless weakness can lead to disastrous consequences. There's a steamy sex scene early on, and some well carried-out bloody violence scenes towards the end.

If you do buy/watch 'The Boy Next Door' and enjoy it, you may also wish to check out the similar Swimfan [DVD].

The DVD contains no bonus extras.

This movie won't win any best of awards in a hurry. But if you want something you can watch that doesn't require a huge amount of thinking then this movie is that. The cast are great in this movie. It moves along at a great pace its quite grafic in parts but that's why it's a 18 I guess.

If you want something fun and that doesn't take itself to serious this is that movie.
