McCall (Denzel Washington) has put his mysterious past behind him and is dedicated to living a new, quiet life. But when he meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can't stand idly by. Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anyone who would brutalize the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened. If someone has a problem, if the odds are stacked against them, if they have nowhere else to turn, McCall will help. He is The Equalizer.

For more than two hours, this intelligent, taut, low-key thriller kept us entertained and engaged. It far exceeds expectation, and delivers a typically thoughtful and powerful performance from Denzel Washington. It also perfectly sets up a sequel or TV series, but it’s now hard to imagine someone other than Denzel taking centrestage in the role of the quiet man who rights wrongs.

We came to this re-make with all the baggage of the old, much-loved Edward Woodward TV series. Comparisons are almost pointless, the two are so far apart. Instead of judging the new film by the old standards, we just got wrapped up in its narrative, captivated by the central character who appears to be trudging through a mundane life, obsessive-compulsively arranging his cutlery, helping others where he can.
There’s nothing especially original about the set-up – Bob observes a young working girl being abused by customers and her pimp. As her plight worsens so his concern increases until it brings him to a pivot-point which threatens the whole equilibrium of the life he’s been trying to build. He faces a massive moral dilemma: does he intervene at significant personal cost? Or walk away?
Happily for us… it all kicks off in magnificent style with some beautifully choreographed and photographed fight sequences. They’re a bit reminiscent of the Robert Downey Jnr Sherlock fights; full of calculation and observation, with the action itself delivered in stylised slo-mo so we don’t miss any of the clever bits.
The final showdown is a total treat, set in a DIY warehouse with Bob using all manner of gadgets in inventive ways to rescue hostages from Russian hoods.

A great and entertaining movie. Any movie that can keep and audience attention for over 2 hours has to be good. This movie was gripping this lots of how is he going to get out of this, and oh no they have got him now. Being a grown up 80s kid I know this based on the Edward Woodward TV series. However being quite young in the 80s I cannot fully remember a single complete episode of said series. All I remember is the speech Woodward gave in the commercials saying if the odds were against you he would equalise them. The thing was even though this was never said in this movie it lived up to every word. If anything this move would be like a prequel to the series more showing who he became the Equalizer.

Meet Bob. He is liked and respected by everyone even the foul mouthed teenaged colleagues in the local DIY store. He will help you out anyway he can, find what you need, self-help advice, a shoulder to cry on, ever personal training. Whatever you need Bob is the man to know. However nobody really knows Bob very well. His past is a complete mystery. His mind is always active to the point where he cannot sleep; he is particular and regimented to the point of OCD.

When a young girl, who Bob advising on how the turn her life around, is brutally beaten by her Russian pimp. Bob offers the buy the girl’s freedom from him when he laughs in his face he learns Bob is not just a nice old man trying to do his good deed for the day, but someone who has already calculated how to kill everyone in the room. Now the pimp's boss is looking for retribution sending his most efficient and brutal enforcer to solve the mystery as an example to others. The only slight criticism of this movie is that Denzel does manage to pull off some reality defying scenarios.

Bob (Denzel Washington) works at the Boston Home Mart (Home Depot). He lives a very simple, neat and orderly life. He also acts as a Life Coach to those around him particularly an overweight co-worker Ralphie (Johnny Skourtis) who wants to be a security guard and Teri, a Russian immigrant prostitute (Chloë Grace Moretz) who he bumps into at a restaurant.

Bob gives out advice like "You got to be who you are" and "Doubt Kills." His advice to the prostitute that she could be anything she wanted, didn't work out when she thought she could be a boxer with her Russian pimp. Sometimes people need more than a life coach, they need a vigilante who happens to be one of the Pips.

Armed with a trained eye, honey, clover, and a cork screw, Bob takes on the entire Russian mafia which contains nothing but heavily armed stereotypical sociopaths with satanic tattoos.

There must be nearly a 100 new vigilante films out there right now. I know, I reviewed most of them. If I was going to watch one, this one would be it.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

Robert McCall' (Denzel Washington) has long since left his past life behind him, he now works in a D.I.Y store leading a
anonymous life these days.
He often visits a local Diner attended frequently by 'Teri' (Chloe Grace Moretz) who's life appears to be controlled by
Russian Mobsters/Gangsters.
'McCall' notices she gets hit around some by either clients or and her Russian-Masters.......when she lands up in Hospital,
'McCall' seeks out the Russians and offers to buy her out of their clutches, his gesture is rejected, guess they should have
taken the $9800 when offered.
'McCall' will use his deadly skills if he needs to do so despite promising his now departed wife he'd not do so, and that he'd
never be that person again.
He will soon learn that his earlier problem-solving actions are just the beginning, the faces may have changed, but for the
Russians, it's business as usual, and they will seek to even the score.
Things get pretty intense when the Russians try to exploit 'McCall's weak spot.
Brilliantly entertaining no-nonsense and gritty settle-the-score, even-the-odds movie containing several brutal sequences along
with a measure of compassion and humour.
'Denzel Washington' is a cool operator as 'McCall' --Great Role
