Product Description

If you loved THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE and THE HILLS HAVE EYES then you are sure to pig-out with the sicko-shocks of eighties fright-favourite SLAUGHTERHOUSE. This corpse-ridden classic introduces one of the screen s most memorable madmen in Buddy a cleaver-wielding backwoods baddie who, along with his father Lester, doesn t take kindly to trespassers. Buddy was brought up killing and packing meat, but now his rage turns to teens and market-capitalists seeking to buy-out his dad s property. The end result is a tongue-in-cheek terror totem that returns from the VHS vaults to BluRay in this great new HD master scanned from the original negative by director Rick Roessler!

Booklet Notes by Calum Waddell

88 Films have done another fine job of transferring this classic to HD uncut on Blu-ray, a great slasher movie from back in 1987, basically an old slaughterhouse owner and his son are forced to leave their property because of future developments on their land, he and his son have had their way of taking care of trespassers over the years and its time to get the cleaver out once again for anyone that comes near their slaughterhouse! the movie has the formula of Texas chainsaw massacre etc with the iconic killer which in this case is Buddy the huge son with the giant razor cleaver, there's plenty of good old school practical kills and blood splattering everywhere, the cast is pretty good your usual pretty teen cast lined up for the body count! this is certainly another 80's VHS days classic worth picking up for your collection especially with this fine Blu-ray treatment.

Great HD picture UNCUT.
Lots of features including a commentary, interviews, on set footage, TV spots and more, plus a 3 page booklet of movie info.
Reversible sleeve, Region free ABC, 85-mins, 1987.

As a child of 80’s horror; who walked the halls of the video store like it was my museum. A warm, cozy feeling comes from collecting the movies of yesteryear, in my older age. My favorite sub of the horror genre; aside from zombie horror, is the slasher film. There’s something magic about the old stalk, and kill of teenagers with questionable morals. That is more comforting to me, than a big cup of hot chocolate on a winter night. The simplistic aspect, and judge, and jury nature. Of our favorite horrror killers, playing the hand of righteousness; that arrives just in time to right the moral wrongs of life. Fits like a warm glove, over the icy heart that sits in my discensitized chest.

Sometimes a pure gem will get lost in the fray, and becomes instantly logged within the annals of the underrated. This one in particular is 1987’s Slaughterhouse. Essentially the bastard son of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Motel Hell. But also oh so very much more. Being the Director Rick Roessler’s, only attempt at film. Is something mind boggling. He managed to craft a work of horror comedy art, that provides an equally perfect balance of both. With a heart behind it, that tromps anything in the subgenre, that came after it.

A father, and son team, Lester, and Buddy Bacon, Facing the foreclosure of their beloved family slaughterhouse. Turn to the dark side when the Father’s Mentally challenged son Buddy (Played lovingly by Blood Diner’s Joe B. Barton) Turns to murder to solve all their problems. Don Barrett portrays the elder Bacon, with tongue placed eternally in cheek, and eye forever winking at the audience, in all the right ways. Joe B. Barton takes the character of Buddy (who never speaks a line of dialogue through-out, aside from animal sounds.) And creates a full, rich character.

As a fan and collector of slasher films id never seen this until 88films release this week.
First off the artwork is 80s style using i imagine original artwork from its release.
The extras are good interviews and trailers etc.theres a 'buddy meets the people' extra which dragged and had to skip but apart from that its faultless.
The film looks great, sounds great,at times gripping even though its clearly got comedy elements.it is uncut.
Characters you cam actually get behind.
For slasher and 80s horror fans its a must own.

The central appeal of this movie, that of seeing 1980s slasher movie victim teens facing off against 1970s good ole boy villains, may make the film superficially similar to Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 but they really don't feel a lot alike. The film has a really well judged sense of the humourously absurd and the grimly morbid, striking a very entertaining balance. It's knowingly cheesy but it isn't smug about it. Of all the TCM rip offs, this one has to be my favourite, beating out Motel Hell and Pieces by a country mile. I particularly love the cheestastic Devo/Kraftwerk new wave music that plays throughout the first and second acts by someone called VANTAGE POINT. It has that lovely naivity of 1980s music at it's best/worst.

The disc, which has one of the worst covers in history (Lucky 13 is the DVD label but they made it look like a title, and the "CULT COLLECTIBLES" button is clearly from Microsoft Word WordArt!), is surprisingly great. Made last century (1999 to be precise), the DVD has a really solid full screen picture with no problems I could detect, at all. It upscales nicely on my BD player. It also has solid sound reproduction (stereo only) and subtitles!

Extras include:

- Lengthy interviews with the director and the producer
- An audio commentary with director, producer and the production designer
- A load of deleted scenes
- Trailers, tv spots and a great "No Smoking" infomercial with the movie's characters
- Comprehensive footage of the promotional tour by crew and lead actor
- DVD ROM extras (screenplay, budget sheet, ad campaign concept art, reviews, newspaper clippings....

It's not quite a film school in a box but this DVD is LOADED. Why give it such awful cover art, then!?
