Based on a true story, HOUSE ON THE HILL is a true crime melodrama with strong horror elements, chronicling the outrageous 1980s murder spree of serial killer Leonard Lake, who would target, kidnap, rob and kill people - and even whole families. Sonia, the only survivor of Lake's killing spree, teams up with a private investigator to help him locate a woman who disappeared into Lake's compound. In the process, Sonia recounts the horrors of the house, where Lake and his accomplice would force her to videotape the killings.

I consider myself to be a film buff, which means I've seen a lot of movies, and yet I'm sill a sucker for these awful 'horrors' that are on sale at the likes of ASDA and Tesco, where a new one appears on their shelves every week. I know what I'm probably going to get anyway, an awful B movie dressed up in a fancy DVD box with a picture on the cover that has no relevance at all to the contents. However, sometimes the movie hasn't been quite as bad as I predicted, so I still give them a go, and sometimes there good for a laugh at least, but 'House on the Hill' isn't, it's just terrible.

Based on the true story of Leonard Lake, an American serial killer who, along with Charles Ng, kidnapped and murdered at least 11 people from 1983-1985, and videotaped some of the killings. This isn't the best subject to make a film about anyway, and 'House on the Hill' is just a nasty piece of rubbish.

There are too many reasons as to why this is limited to straight-to-DVD only, the filming is all over the place, like watching a documentary put together by first year film students at college. The acting is painfully bad, and there is just no tension or any real build up which makes a good horror, regardless of how awful the subject might be.

I hate to admit this, but I found the most interesting part of 'House on the Hill' were the brief clips of the real Leonard Lake explaining himself. If bad movies/snuff movies are your bag - by all means buy this movie, but if you have any taste - you'll avoid this one like the plague.

what rubbish movie.absolutly no tension or build up for a movie classed as a horror or thriler genre.a total waste of my money and time.the directing was all over the place hard to follow n loose interest in the characters...dont waste ur life watching this droll movie

The review was nothing like the actual film. I thought that I was going to watch something that resembles a ghost movie. The film was very difficult to watch as I had to turn the volume up to hear the speech which was then accompanied with a low rumbling noise. I then had to turn the volume down when the music came on as it suddenly blasted out that loud that the neighbors must have had a fee viewing! Don't pay to view this film as you will just waste your money.
