Product Description

Product Description

A cleverly conceived, eerily atmospheric sci-fi chiller, Unearthly Stranger stars future Baron Munchausen John Neville as a scientist engaged in an experimental project like no other; Gabriella Licudi is his beautiful but otherworldly wife, who becomes the subject of great interest for his government superiors. This original, intelligent and compelling feature from award-winning Avengers director John Krish is presented here in a brand-new High Definition transfer from the original film elements, in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio.

TP91 is a secret and highly complex formula which will enable man to project himself through time and space, but when Dr Munro succeeds in solving the first part of it he is found dead before he can pass on the invaluable result. His successor quickly senses that both he and his new wife are now in grave danger...

Classic slice of British sci fi which relies on a great,,smart and witty script.
I won't go on about the story, because if you love quality psychological sci fi minus mutants, blobs, fly heads or little aliens with bug eyes then this will be for you.
My comments are regarding this blu ray release.
The picture black and white contrasts are nice, and image is nice and sharp. The image does suffer from speckling still but this is the best you will get from a low budget movie of this kind.On a personal level i am more than satisfied with the release. Not as good as NIGHT OF THE DEMON,but a great addition to my hd collection

A superb print for this long awaited official release. Sharp picture and excellent sound. This is a marvelous film that plays out like an old Avengers Episode - not surprising when you read the credits for the films producers. FANTASTIC.

First rate actors, and an interesting concept, are let down by an over talkative and illogical script and low budget production values which means very limited locations and masses of dialogue all in the few sets affordable. One sequence - the alien's effect on children playing in a school yard, is original and quite well handled. But as this takes place clearly in a town, and moments later we are expected to assume the character has walked "around the corner" to her home, that has previously been depicted as in the heart of the country, this further adds to a general lack of logic that undermines the production. Still it's quite interesting and rare enough to be worth a look. The print is good and the blu ray transfer adequate. There is a fair amount of sparkle damage but not enough to be a problem and the sound is acceptable for a film of this period.
However I would only really recommended it for dedicated sci-fi fans and enthusiasts of "period" British Cinema - for whom it's probably a rare treat. For others it's just a watchable dated "B movie" but little more. That said it comes nowhere near the Quatermass series of films, or "Children of the Damned", in its depiction of insidious alien invasion - although it does have its moments!

Unearthly Stranger is a wonderful British film and i must say the Blu-ray is very nice, it gets a 4/5 from me.

And what i love about this film is, it felt really creepy, and even though they used no special effects you did get the sense of a evil force at work, which will do anything to stop mankind finding out the truth.

This a brilliant sci-fi, which gave so many writers a new angle for future films to come.

I am somewhat surprised that no other reviewer has mentioned the remarkable fact that this Network Release has SUBTITLES. The back of the DVD box says "None" , but I assure you they are there. The DVD is good picture quality but somewhat sibilant sound, which didn't spoil it for me. Ratio 1.66.1. The film is unsensational quite clever Sci Fi, but it is a bit talky, but still has some worthwhile moments. A small cast do their best, and Gabriella Licudi is always worth a watch and is good. Jean Marsh is a bit wasted, and John Neville...? well if you are fan...! I enjoyed the film but it is low key and not a classic (in my view). Perhaps for buffs only?

A brilliant lost sci-fi/horror film resurfaces thanks to Network. This is a classic and can stand it's own ground with other '50's classics like the Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

A superior SF film. No special effects but completely gripping, showing what could be done with a limited budget. Great ending and watch out for the brilliant scene involving children playing in a school yard. A film that could not be made nowadays.

A great story, Jean Marsh makes an early film appearance and puts in a good performance, quite a chiller, I won't give away the story but it is worth a look, you'll see some of the good bits surface in later films.
