Hell of the living dead. (zombie creeping-flesh)

After an accident at a factory producing a 'solution to world hunger' experiences a leak, the resulting toxins start up a fairly virulent zombie plague in some third world country that's never named (could be south America but more likely Africa). A Pittsburgh swat team that happens to be in the area taking out terrorists gets roped in to head to the factory to see what's happened. On the way the team pick up a new crew escaping the un-dead menace.
HOTLD is a cheesy, trashy and outrageously over the top slice of Italian exploitation from Italian exploitation legends Bruno Mattei and Claudio Fragasso (better known for the academy award nominated Troll 2) The film steals liberally from other sources. Namely Dawn of the Dead, with the team wearing the same Swat gear as Ben and Flyboy. More importantly the film steals the Goblin soundtrack and repeats the same portion of it over and over and over and....
The film also nicks plenty of wildlife stock footage so we know we're in Africa and displays its lofty intentions of being the Italian Exploitation take on Jonathan Swifts a modest proposals where its revealed that the cure for starvation in the third world is to get everyone to eat each other. Nice.
The film may be cinematic junk food, but like the best cinematic Junk food it goes down smooth and the film is a pacey, noisy often hilarious and over the top piece of sleaze that continues to be entertaining no matter how many times its watched. The dialogue is awful, characters actions often make no sense but its never aware of how mental it is at any point which is why it works in spite of itself.

A fantastic double bill and a really good price too.
Picture quality and sound for both movies are excellent.
The first movie (Hell Of The Living Dead) is better known in the UK as Zombie Creeping Flesh.
A crack team of SAS types are sent into the jungles of Papua New Guinea to shut down a chemical spill from a secret research module which is causing the dead to rise blah blah you know the score, its a movie done on the cheap using tons of stock footage from old news and documentary programmes but that aside, the flick works rather well and this is the full un- cut gorey version.
Rats-Night Of Terror is a hybrid offering that mixes elements of Herbert's "Rats" trilogy of books (especially "Domain") with the good old spaghetti apocalypse movie.
Descendants of the survivors of the nuclear war that destroyed civilisation fight off hordes of rather uninterested looking rats in a ruined city and end up getting a little more than they bargained for.
Both movies are cheesy classics!

Hell of the living Dead (aka zombie creeping flesh) - This print looks amazing, and the stock footage gorefest by mattei is more comedy than when i had it as a vhs video nasty about a decade ago. Really impressed, i expected a weak transfer (the stock footage obviously looks like vhs against all the other shots, but here it makes it even funnier to the inept and often unnecessary inserts)

Rats - Good priint, but weaker than the other, and i loved this when i saw it about 15 years ago, i was bored as hell this time.

They both look great, far better than my dvd print of rats., and my shameful vipco dvd of living dead, so if your a fan of this schlocky stuff, this is a top release

Classic spaghetti-cheese fest! Horror to some, comedy to others. Unintentional funny dialogue and acting. If you love your horror with your tongue lodged firmly in your cheek then get this now. Great value double bill. Great transfers (hell, I sold my dvd versions). Icing on the cake is the awesome Goblin (aka 'Dawn of the Dead') soundtrack in 'Hell of the Living Dead' (also used in 'Contamination'). Watch out for 'chocolates' crazy dancing when they discover sugar/flour in the old building lol. Buy today, you won't regret it! ;)
