Product Description

Product Description

All episodes from the second series of the Channel 4 conspiracy thriller starring Fiona O'Shaughnessy. When a group of strangers who met on a comic book forum find they are somehow connected to each other through the plot of a legendary graphic novel, their lives become targets of a organisation known only as The Network. Ian (Nathan Stewart-Jarrett), Becky (Alexandra Roach), Wilson (Adeel Akhtar) and Grant (Oliver Woollford) are in possession of the original manuscript for the novel and discover that The Network will go to great lengths to get the manuscript back. As they find themselves being framed for crimes they did not commit, they must work together to fight off The Network.

It has been 3 months since the destruction of the Utopia manuscript, and things have been quiet for Ian, Becky and co. Believing the Network to be finished, they each try to get back to some semblance of normality. Ian is back working in IT, and to add insult to injury, now has Grant as a flatmate. Becky is alone and with her Deels symptoms rapidly getting worse, she's considering drastic action.

But far from being over, the Network are only just beginning...With Jessica as their prisoner, they finally have Janus and are poised to put their plans into action. Production of the final vaccine is in full swing, and Dugdale finds himself at the helm, as the new head of Corvadt. But with Geoff's new found public popularity starting to go to his head, his resentment at being the Network's political puppet has started to grow, and he is forced to resort to desperate measures when his career is threatened.

Wilson finds himself at the very heart of the Network as Milner's new right hand man - but after his stark betrayal of his friends, just how far is he prepared to go in pursuit of his beliefs? His dedication to the cause is tested to its limits as Milner forces him to prove his loyalty.

Finding their lives in danger again, the gang must join forces once more to fight the all powerful Network. With Arby having seemingly turned over a new leaf, old loyalties have been turned on their heads, and who to trust becomes a matter of life and death.

As dark secrets from the past begin to resurface into the present, both Milner and the gang are faced with the explosive revelation that Janus is something far more dark and terrifying than they could ever have imagined. As the Network's destructive plans are finally set into motion, the gang now face a race against time to prevent global disaster.

The 4 star rating is for the second series itself, which was great, even if it didn't quite match up to the brilliance of series 1. The true reason of my review is simply to voice my frustration that channel 4 have decided not to release series 2 on blu-ray. I am a big fan of the show and I own series 1 on blu-ray, and I watched this 2nd series on 4hd so I really do not wish to downgrade to DVD quality. Visually this show is absolutely gorgeous, it is colourful and the cinematography is second to none so it really lends itself to be viewed in high definition. Frustratingly, I am choosing not to purchase the DVD version of Utopia series 2 and I will hold out hope for a blu-ray release, although I'm not convinced that day will come.

I don't want to give away anything, so I will say only that Series Two is excellent. I found it slightly less terrifying than Series One, probably because the story and characters are more familiar now. Of course, there is still plenty of violence, gore, and wheels-within-wheels goodness. I'm looking forward to Series Three.

Series two follows of in the same style as before but is perhaps a bit more accessible being a bit easier to follow. A great collection of characters, an interesting conspiracy to hang everything off, a great sounds track, impressive cinematography, good performance and of course some shocking bloody violence.

Its a great mix and the only negatives is I feel I'm not sure there'd be quite so much flip flopping of positions, the last 15 minutes setting up the next series had people out of characters and the fact there won't be a third series. I must say the first episode (of this 6 parter, each 45/50 minutes ) set in the 70's was brilliant. I know they got in trouble for linking it to actual events but the cinematography and feel of it being in that time was superb.

The basics of the series plot is a virus is to be release that will ultimately be very painful but will be for the greater good, and there's a groups of people battling for and against this.

the second series of utopia picks up about a few months later, but reunites most of the original cast from the first series and without spoiling anything pretty much brings everything full circle. the first episode is a prequel episode set sometime in the 1970's that includes jessica hydes father and a young milner and the formation of the network and the creation of janus.

The insanely surreal Utopia returns for another series and doesn't drop the ball. Back is the lurid colour framing the blackest of humour, back is The Network and the conspiracy theories that propelled the first series and back are the crazy, eccentric characters we have come to adore.

The first episode is an inventive time capsule telling the story of Janus' creation back in the seventies. Fantastically filmed it sets the tone for what is to follow. Pleasingly the rest of the series doesn't dissapoint with double turns and even more unusual characters. Utopia is a fascinating blend of the surreal clashing with the real world. A normal family scene will be interrupted by the arrival of a hitman in brightly coloured clothes with a duffel bag filled with...... well you can see for yourself, but it is these moments that makes Utopia such a compelling watch.

Violence is not shied away from and whilst never lingered on it is graphic but in a deliberately comic book way. The storytelling is great. You never really know which way it is going and you never know who will survive. There are surprises along the way.

This short lived series is well worth catching up on if you havent seen it already. Subversive, dark and interesting it will have you hooked.

Greatest British drama of all time. The editing, cinematography, plot, script, acting, everything is done to absolute perfection. Utopia is very heavy, but especially relevant in todays world. Everyone needs to watch this show.

Utopia (both series) is one of the best things I've seen in years. One or two of the more minor story lines are a bit crazy (how do you learn what someone knows by dissecting their brain?) ... but the overall plot is fascinating. If you really believe the more doom laden predictions of the near future, the sort of extreme measures contemplated here to prevent the worst consequences must be considered ... :-) ... at least briefly! Do the ends justify the means? Perhaps that does depend on what is at stake. It is nice to see such things being explored in such an entertaining way. Needless to say, Utopia is very violent ... so it isn't exactly family viewing ...
