***** THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE SHOUT! (scream) FACTORY RELEASE OF NIGHT OF THE DEMONS!***********

Released to Blu-ray by Scream Factory around the same time as Kevin S. Tenny's other commercial horror hit WITCHBOARD, Night of the Demons is as far removed from that film as one can get. While Witchboard was a fairly sedate and serious horror with strong character development and human drama, Night of the Demons is a balls-to-the-wall horror comedy with plenty of gore, cartoonish characters and a scooby doo meets evil dead plot. Even viewers who might not have got on with witchboards more old fashioned sensibilities will find plenty to enjoy in this cult classic.

Angela is holding a party. Being a goth chick in a small town she needs it to be special so she holds it at Hull house, a lovely rural property that should have it's photo pinned up in dictionary's to illustrate the definition of 'ominous'. Hull house has all the typical dark history and built on cursed land back story that should really be a warning flag to partying teens to stay the hell away. However this is all perfect for Angela and a group of teens all head up for a Halloween night party of music, drink debauchery and demonic possession that are the hallmarks of any great cinematic teen party. Pretty soon the dwindling number of teens left alive and human must find a way to fight back against the houses demonic forces and survive the night.

While on paper Night of the Demons sounds very typical of eighties horror it does have enough fresh ideas to make it stand out from the crowd. It presents the classic teen archetypes that as horror fans you think you know. Then it throws enough twists and surprises into the mix that you soon realise its pretty difficult to guess who's going to get possessed/killed next.

Night of the Demons (1988) stands the test of time, much like Halloween and Friday the 13th still manage to bring in new fans, this version of Night of the Demons can do the same, it hasn't dated, it still supplies good horror and is far superior to remake, both in acting and gore stakes aswell as the odd scare tactic. The movie itself features a typical haunted house scenario but adds in plenty of twists, covers all the plot leaving no holes along the way and features characters you can root for. Great horror, must see cult for all fans of horror genre and one you can show to today's students and not have them wonder what kind of drug you were taking to enjoy it!

I guess most people know the story behind this film directed by Kevin S.Tenny in 1987
The critics didn't like this film when first released but became a massive hit on Home Video since
The story centres around a group of teenagers who really have nothing really in common with each other spending time at a Halloween
Party organised by Angela, in a old funeral home.

The good news!
We finally get this on Blu-Ray!
I have compared the picture quality to the old Anchor R2 release Night of The Demons [DVD] and it's a marked improvement over that format
Sound for Blu-ray: 2.0
Picture frame for Blu-ray: 10.80p

The bad news!
This release has no extras it's a bare bone disc you have to fiddle around with the options as it's in Spanish,
Would have been great if we could have had a disc full of special features as with the Shout Factory Release
Overall apart from the above this is a great film and I would recommend checking out Kevin Tenny's earlier release ofWitchboard [Blu-ray] [1986] [US Import]

Terrific 80s horror, it's basically a
possession/haunted house movie
done with a bit of verve. This is the
uncut (i think, it runs 89 mins 35 secs
and seems like a previous uncut print
i've seen) Spanish? blu ray release.
The picture takes up all the room
on a modern TV (yes!) and looks suitably nice,
trailer is the only extra i think.
The lead ' alice in wonderland' girl has the
acting skills of a broken cupboard door, but
this IS the 80s and all is forgiven.
It plays on UK blu ray players as well.
Stooge is king.

Perfect for a night in on halloween. The practical effects and 80's humor will blow you away if thats your thing. Made when horrors were at their best, and it shows.
