Having seen all of the Scary Movie films to date i wouldn't exactly call myself a fan, just that i like the silly Airplane style OTT humor poking fun at serious films, which these are a nice break from. With a heavy heart i sadly have to report that this 5th installment is arguably the weakest in the series IMO. Gone are the regular cast members that made it so good, such as the brilliant Anna Faris, Regina Hall , Anthony Anderson & cameos from more high profile celebs/actors, who actually want to work.

The lead duo on this are Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical), who is no where near the comedy echelons or screen presence of Anna Faris, who is able to make the silly material look so good on screen because she is a great actress. But i have to admit that the material in this one would even push Anna's abilities to get laughs. She puts in a good effort, so i wouldn't judge Miss Tisdale on this film alone, she's usually good, iv'e seen her carer grow through The Suite Life.. & High School Musical (my nieces watched them, honestly ;-)). And Simon Rex whose been a regular since Scary Movie 3 & is adept at visual slapstick comedy , which is pushed way over the top here as the material is so thin. They are the husband & wife team in the centralized take up of Paranormal Activity/Mama & other films such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Black Swan, Evil Dead & Sinister etc...

Charlie Sheen & Lindsay Lohan appear only in the first 5 minutes to a hit & miss opening bedroom scene, who are both phoning in they're performance for a quick pay day.

One of the nice things about this series is that the current film doesn't build upon previous installments. However, it is a spoof of other films which means you must have either seen those films, or have enough knowledge of them to enjoy this film.

Number 5 builds primarily on the film "Mama" but also incorporates the Paranormal series, "Planet of the Apes," "Black Swan," Madea, "Evil Dead," Inception," and "The Help," plus a few I might have missed. The Zucker humor in this film is no different than previous films relying in part on crudeness and slapstick.

The best part of this film was the beginning as Charlie Sheen and Lindsey Lohan joke about their real life and have a sex scene out of a Benny Hill episode. Unfortunately they die after opening scene and do not appear again outside of some doctored up photos.

This is not a film you must rush out and buy. It can wait for a price drop...like a 5 pack for $5.00.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. Silly sex scene. Fake butt nudity. Fat woman in thong.

'Scary Movie 5' works as a stand alone film, because it doesn't build on any of the previous efforts. As with all the other entries in the franchise though, it parodies other movies, so you will have to have seen their main targets of 'Paranormal Activity' and 'Mama' first, in order to understand and appreciate the humour.

I am under no illusions, this 2013 flick certainly isn't as good as the first three movies, but I can't say that I disliked it either, in fact I really enjoyed it. After bringing home their lost nieces and nephew home, the happy Sanders couple (Simon Rex and Ashley Tisdale) begin to experience some unusual activity. With the help of home-surveillance cameras, they learn they're being stalked by an evil dead demon. This spirit looks set to disrupt new 'mama' Jody's aspirations of dancing in a production of 'Swan Lake', and threatens Dan's rise as an ape researcher. A host of familiar stars also feature like Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, Snoop Dogg, and Mike Tyson.

This is more good light-hearted humour from the 'Scary Movie' canon, unapologetically stupid, over-the-top, but consistently amusing. The performances from the two centrals was good, and the story was fairly interesting, it really works. With plenty of side jokes, affectionate nods to pop culture and other movies, 'Scary Movie 5' succeeds for what it is - a parody.

Having recently watched all 5 films on bluray over a few days ive found the original trilogy has lost almost all its charm and things that at their release seemed funny are now outdated and not funny anymore.scary movie 4 was good but 5 is just genius, exactly what a spoof movie should be like, everything over exxagerated, silly things that are far fetched and also mocking a wide range of things not just 1 thing.this one mocks mama as the main story and black swan features a little, from the deleted scenes it seems it featured a little more, also the book 50 shades has a 30 second segment with a extended 2 minute version as a extra feature which should have been in the film, because the film barely makes it past the hour mark so cutting down a hilarious segment seems crazy.theres no behind the scenes or extras of any kind except the few extended or deleted scenes, another crazy scene cut out features a girl on crutches being run over,as being run over has been a regular feature in scary movie films its madness to cut such a brilliant scene which also features a sentence referencing an earlier scene.overall its a must buy and must watch for any scary movie or comedy fans.lets hope scary movie 6 doesnt take forever to be released
