Triumph of Hercules

Prince Milo has his uncle the King assassinated and the plans on taking over the throne by marrying his cousin Princess Ate. His mother Pasiphae a witch gives him a magical dagger which when its pulled from its scabbard unleashes seven invincible bronze men. The only man however capable of resorting peace and destroying Milo and his bodyguards is Hercules.

Dan Vadis was prohaps the most ideal actor to play Hercules due to the fact he comes from a family with Greek descent. He made only a handful of Sword and Sandal films in the early 1960's but this is my personal favourite of the few that he had a lead role in.

Alberto De Martino keeps the film moving at a rattling pace and there seems to be a fight sequence every few minutes. The best ones been the opening battle scene and the films climax where Hercules takes on the Bronze giants in a Pasiphae caves. I found the gladiatorial combat sequence however poorly choreographed.

Even with a lot of action and it been well directed its clear is was filmed on a low budget and made on a typical recycled story but even with those flaws its a cut above the average sword and sandal films made around the same time.

Dan Vadis is great as Hercules and it was good to see his character have a evil streak compared to the ones played by Mark Forest, Steve Reeves etc. As at one point believing his friends have kidnapped his future wife, he destroys their village and kills a innocent man.

Francesco De Masi's music is really good, featuring a heroic theme tune and the track played around the Bronze men is great.

Overall a highly enjoyable predicable fast paced movie.
