Product Description

For a decade, an elite team of intelligence and military operatives, working in secret across the globe, devoted themselves to a single goal: to find and eliminate Osama Bin Laden.

Zero Dark Thirty reunites the Oscar-winning team of director-producer Kathryn Bigelow and writer-producer Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker) for the story of history's greatest manhunt for the world's most dangerous man.

Considering the subject matter of Zero Dark Thirty, a film that follows the CIA's decade-long hunt for Osama Bin Laden, it'd be little surprise were Hollywood to knock the edges off a little to make it easier for a broader audience. But director Kathryn Bigelow makes no such concession. Off the back of her Oscar-winning feature The Hurt Locker, her movie is a pulls-no-punches, under-your-skin drama. As such, it's not always the easiest film to watch, but it is an utterly compelling one.

At the heart of it is Jessica Chastain, playing CIA officer Maya. She's the anchor of Zero Dark Thirty, and it's her drive and determination that underpins the ongoing search. Bigelow employs a broad ensemble, unsurprising given the length of time the film's story covers, but she too is a standpoint. She's emerged as one of America's most compelling, interesting directors, and Zero Dark Thirty is an exceptional, bold piece of film making.

The disc features some welcome extra material that digs a little deeper, but it's on something of a hiding to nothing, given the strength and ferocity of the main feature itself. A modern classic? Maybe, maybe not. But Zero Dark Thirty is a film, either way, that simply demands to be seen. --Jon Foster

The film follows the true events leading up to the ultimate finding of
and subsequent killing of, the much sought after 'Al-Qaeda' leader
'Osama Bin Laden'
A desperate search that had taken ten long years.
The film brought to our screen by the writer and director of the much
acclaimed movie 'The Hurt Locker' (Kathryn Bigeloiw) which is in my
my opinion another film worth owning.
This film is often intense and frankly brutal when gathering the
information which eventually leads to the assault on 'Bin-Laden's'
Compound.
A well executed and fact based drama, an engrossing and interesting
viewing experience.......which includes scenes of graphic-violence
including 'Torture' 'Terrorist Attacks' and aftermath, along with the
violent assault on 'Bin-Laden's' compound.
A Well portrayed Drama.

Why do people use their reviews to make political points or critise the actions of a third party? It doesn't matter what you think about waterboarding or the CIA, you're here to review a piece of fictionalised film making to give potential buyers an opinion.
That said I really enjoyed this film. It's no spoiler to say that the actual attack on Bin Laden's compound occupies the final half hour of a two and a half hour movie and when I realised how long the film was I did wonder how Katherine Bigelow was going to keep me interested.
Well she did it with a tense slow burning fuse of a movie based upon Jessica Chastain's character's obsession with killing Bin Laden. She goes from a fresh faced new recruit who turns her face away from torture to the a hard bitten professional spy. I felt her tears at the end were due to her realsing she had nothing left in her life following the success of the mission.
If your sort of movie doesn't progress beyong 'Die Hard' (which I love too) then you probbaly won't enjoy this film. If however you do like a good story with a superb cast performance then this could be for you.
If 'Die Hard' is the only type of movie you enjoy then don't bother fast forwarding to the end. The raid on the compound portrays professional soldiers and a job well done not gung ho trigger happy grunts.
The picture quality of the blu ray is superb and it has an excellent 5.1 audio track too.

Zero Dark Thirty is a fascist fantasy, where the tragedy of the USA abandoning its morality out of fear is packaged up as a great victory by the "War on Terror's" own Leni Riefenstahl, Kathryn Bigelow.

Actually, that isn't entirely fair. Leni Riefenstahl could genuinely claim to have been possibly the greatest film maker ever; Katherine Bigelow, on the other hand, is a Hollywood popcorn matinee hack who now produces Hollywood popcorn matinee propaganda movies for the Fox News demographic.

It perpetuates the lie that torture reveals actionable intelligence that led to the finding and execution of Osama bin Laden.

Mike Hayden, Former CIA Director, stated "I'm willing to concede the point that no-one gave us valuable or actionable intelligence while they were , for example, being waterboarded."

A statement from nine leading interrogators and intelligence officials states: “The use of waterboarding and other so'called “enhanced” interrogation techniques almost certainly prolonged the hunt for Bin Laden and complicated the jobs of professional U.S. interrogators who were trying to develop useful information from unwilling sources like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed ... We believe that the U.S. would have learned more from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other high value detainees if, from the beginning, professional interrogators had a chance to question them using the sophisticated, yet humane, approaches approved by U.S. law.”

Getting the name of a courier, said expert interrogator Andrew Alexander, “happened a year after he [Khalid Sheikh Mohammed] was waterboarded, which tells me from my experience that I saw in Iraq, that the waterboarding actually slowed down the acquisition of intelligence by a year.

I have seen The Hurt Locker and gave it 5 stars, so I film set in similar settings was always going to a tough call for the the directer. But low and behold she did it.

I already had a huge interest in the real events of 9/11 following on to 7/7, and wanted nothing more than justice. When the story actually broke, I wondered if a film or documentary would of been made. Yes were my answers.

I as well as millions around the world wanted to know exactly what happened that night and how they actually achieved killing the most wanted man in the world.

Of course details had to be left out but the complexities of the events were plan to see, from the names to who had links why they had links and who was truly involved with the man, They are all spelled out to you in an easy to follow script. Full of tensions and gripping scenes. The torture scenes were standard in my eyes obviously not nice to witness but we have all watched horror film and to me they are ten times worse.

Jessica's one woman crusade to hunt and kill the worlds most wanted man was incredible she stole the show and rightly so, her grit passion determination and patience were what made this an amazing memorable performance.

The music set the tone and the the dialect with the need of massive explosions (apart from one) CGI and all those big holiday techniques, is what makes this one film that literally go down as history as to the day many of us felt free.
