This blu ray would make the perfect gift for the horror aficionado in your life. Texas Chainsaw 2 is to Texas Chainsaw 1 what Evil Dead 2 is to Evil Dead 1: a manic, high energy follow up. Both veer off the originals straight horror template into something approaching cartoony monstrosity. As with Evil Dead 2, Texas Chainsaw 2 moves fast, barely pausing for breath and goes over the top. The boxset contains the full UNCUT movie in all its uncensored glory. Picture quality is good and sharp. The picture has a nice grainy look that never compromises the quality. There's two other discs highlighting some of Hooper's early works complete with interviews and the like. The set also contains a lavish booklet, postcard and individually numbered cert. This is a great package. For those who are put off by the negative critics reviews of this, kudos must be given to Hooper for doing something different. He could have made the same movie again but chose to go down a different bombastic and surreal path. And the actress Caroline Williams playing the screaming heroine of the movie, 'Stretch', puts in a fantastic and charismatic performance. In a nutshell, if you like Evil Dead 2 you will like this.

I'm going to review several versions of this film's release, going backwards chronologically. Hopefully it's labelled well enough you can dip in and grab the one you want.

REVIEW OF THE 2013 (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 Blu-ray) from ARROW:

Truly a milestone, this may well be Arrow's best ever release (the Lifeforce Blu-ray [Limited Edition Steelbook] is another contender). It features 3 discs and one book, neatly grouped by a slipcase but in seperate books, making for an elegant package.

THE PACKAGE:

The artwork on the box is not my preference (to this day the only digital release of these films to use the Breakfast Club spoof artwork is the German Blu-ray, and no home video release has ever used the Howling-inspired poster with Leatherface cutting through a door) but it's very good and just about the best original cover it could have had, much better than the awful Gruesome edition cover in the US (which attempted to make it look like a sequel to the 2003 remake) or the even older cover of the first dvd with an unappealing picture of Dennis Hopper. The packaging is nice to hold but looks somewhat vulnerable to shelf wear (you'll want to be careful). Also included is a Certificate of Authenticity, complete with "Limited Edition Pressing Number" (and on the back of which is finally and thankfully a reproduction of Cannon's original "Breakfast Club" spoof poster!), and there's also an Arrow Video postcard (mine was for an upcoming release of "Remo: Unarmed and Dangerous" aka.Read more ›

Entertaining sequel to the all out grim 70s classic. But whether you will like it or not if you love the original is anyone's guess. Be sure this sequel is more open, even has some lines of comedy in it and is a far different beast to the original.

Part 2 concerns a DJ who gets a prank call but the pranksters get killed by Leatherface and the family whilst out on the road and the whole deaths are recorded on air. When she plays it again at the request of bounty hunter Dennis Hopper, 'the family' come for her at the radio show. First half of the movie is played out mostly in DJ headquarters whilst the second half is played out at the family's new underground home. You can tell the budget is 10x bigger than the original, the sets look very good.

Tobe Hooper who directed the first movie is back again, and yet his touch never feels like it's here, as said before this sequel is very different from the first movie. Dennis Hopper at first is very good as the hunter whose family member Franklin from the first movie was killed by Leatherface. Hopper has some of the best lines and we even get a chainsaw duel between him and Leatherface. But arguably stealing the movie is Bill Moseley as one of the family members. So good was he that Michael Keaton took inspiration from his character to play Beetlejuice.

There are a few problems with this sequel- the police apart from the beginning are nowhere to be found, even though the tape recording was supposed to bring them out of the cracks. The movie never tells us the fate of some of the characters and the finale is taken from the original. A little tired, though final shot looks great.

All in all this is a good sequel for what it is trying to be which is ultimately to be more open for teenagers at the time who could see the character of Leatherface and family as more cool, hence the original promo posters at the time.

This Limited Special Edition is really worth every penny for a fan! Buy if you are a fan of TCM!
I had never seen this film before I bought this edition. I had read mixed reviews! But I really liked it what I saw. It wasn't perfect. I it is not a typical modern horror flick! It is something more, something unique. The picture is really good in this blu-ray release, that is another thing I was worried about before is saw it, since it is not a high budget film. The picture is not something that killed the experience. No problems with the audio either, it is the original un-compressed audio track.

This edition contains pretty much everything you could wish for in extras. Two discs packed with extras (one of them is a DVD), making of- documentaries, interviews, two Tobe Hooper short films (Eggshells and The Heisters) in a all new blu-ray transfer, and much more! It also contains a book by Tobe Hooper called American Freak Illustrations. It is about the making of TCM and TCM 2, problems with the studio-deals and what happened after.

Like I said, is an unexpected, different and good film, that comes in a good-looking edition, filled with extras.

As a fan, I liked it alot! I'd say BUY!! It is a VERY LIMITED edition.
