I put off reading the 50 Shades books because of all the hype and popularity, also because it didn't really sound my kind of book.

I had the first book on my shelf for a good 8 weeks or more before I picked it up warily and after the first chapter I knew I would read it all.

I enjoyed the story, not for the salacious sex scenes, which frankly I started to skip through as it was all a variation of a theme and I was more interested in the storyline.

I have never picked up a book about 'handsome rich man meets girl' before as the thought makes me cringe a bit, but I found myself enjoying this angle of the storyline (who wouldn't want a man who can fly - and I don't mean fish!).

I am not entirely sure if I liked the internal dialogue that Ana has all the time, but that is probably an aspect of the storyline that is quite realistic, it was just not the usual prose I would read.

All in all I really enjoyed the story - yes aspects irritated me - particularly the 'dont leave me" vs "I could never leave you" parts, but the rest was an easy to read love story in a fantasy world, with pretty decent characters.

I am glad to have got to the end of the trilogy because now I can put my efforts into something more worthwhile.....like searching for a pilot who wants to buy me an R8 for my birthday......a girl can dream!

I cannot begin to tell prospective readers how unutterably boring and ridiculous these sequels to the original book are, the original being bad enough. The author simply churns out the same old scenarios time and time again with very little variation, no real plot and actually nothing to hold the reader's attention. Frankly Bambi would be more titillating, so repetitive and mechanical are the sexual encounters between the two participants in this weird and unrealistic relationship. I skim read the first book and, purely out of curiosity, I purchased the sequels since I could not believe that a further 1,000 pages could be so vacuous. More fool me!! As for literary merit forget it. "Janet and John" have the edge! I'm going back to Joanna Trollope, Anita Shreve, Anne Tyler et al. At least they are in touch with the real world and real people and are masters (mistresses) of our beautiful English language in all its intricacies. What worries me most about these books is that untutored youngsters may well get a very distorted view of human relationships, although I do concede that for some people there is a place for these activities in the right setting.

What a load of codswallop!! Never struggled finishing a book so much.. both 2nd and 3rd books are SO BORING! Only got to the end to simply know how she 'became free'. James should have stopped after the first, which was a decent read in its own right! Can't believe books in same series by same author can be so different! But then the material James uses doesn't stretch/entertain for 3 books. Hopefully she's made a decent wage out of the series as I certainly won't be reading another of her books. Shame, I would have done if she kept Fifty Shades to just the first book...

Ok I have to admit with this book I did get a lot more into it than the first. It's kind of strange for someone to enjoy a second part of the story more than the first part but I personally thought there was a lot more depth to it. More of a story line instead of just constant "kinkey fuckery".
I started to warm a lot more to the main characters and felt more connected with them than in the first, they sort of became more human and realistic to me because they actually showed a lot more emotion.
There is definitely a LOT going on in this book so it's quite hard to keep up sometimes with how much they seem to go through in such a short amount of time but I suppose that could be what rich people's lives are like... I wouldn't know.
If you've made it through the first book and didn't like it I would still recommend reading this one because it does redeem itself in my opinion.

Having read the who 50 Shades trio, I have to say that I did thoroughly enjoy them all. I read all 3 in about 10 days and couldn't put them down. However, the writing of them is pretty terrible. There is a lot of repitition, some of it is sort of appropriate but a lot of it is annoying! A friend recommended the books and did say that the writing is awful but the story is quite good, I know what she meant now. I have certainly learnt a lot from reading them but there are still one or two things that I still didn't quite get (if you know what I mean?). I think if you can get past the constant references to Ana's 'inner goddess' and her 'sex'?? Who calls 'down there' a 'sex'?? you will probably enjoy them. It is a pit that they weren't written better, but I'm sure the author doesn't care whilst counting the cash the books have raked in.

Having read 50 Shades of Grey I wanted to read the other two books in the trilogy.
Without giving to much away the story picks up were the first book left off, I was dubious as how the author would be able to keep me hooked in to the story as the first book in my opinion had more or less exhausted the direction it was taking. Not to worry though the second book keeps us hooked by changing direction slightly and is as captivating as the first. I am only half way through as I write this so can't comment on the 3rd installment as yet.
One point to note is I blindly bought the duo version for Kindle trusting Amazons statement to always offer the best priced deal.......I was caught out as the duo was dearer than actually buying the 2nd and 3rd books individually, I will check the prices next time before I buy.
