An odd choice it may be, but in many ways Thunderbolt is my favorite Jackie Chan film (but not his by a very long shot) even though it's far from his best. It's a very slow starter but once it gets going has some of his best stunts, not least because this time it's not played for laughs and when the punches land, people really get hurt. The step-printing in some scenes is a bit irritating and there is one obvious bit of doubling (the fight in the Pachinko parlour is partially shot with a double when Chan was in hospital: the style of fighting and movement is noticeably different), but it's a satisfyingly down and dirty car-chases-and-fights number thanks to the Sammo Hung choreographed fights and Frankie Chan's car stunts. Indeed, there's one amazing car stunt in the final race that has to be seen to be disbelieved, with car flipping over midair and landing upside down on top of another car as it races by: how the hell they shot that for real is beyond me.

Best of all, New Line's Region 1 NTSC DVD is the uncut Hong Kong version with optional English or Cantonese soundtrack and in a great 2.35:1 transfer.

Fantastic film, but must be purchased as region 1 in the UK unless your from Hong Kong. First one I got was region 2 and when I played it it was in either Chinese or Austrian with Austrian Subtitles. This version from Caimen USA however, was absoluly brilliant. It's in English or Chinese with English Subtitles so its up to you how to view. Personnaly I prefer to watch in Cantonese with the subtitles but I couldn't do that with the region 2 version. A1 for Caimen USA

thunderbolt has finally got a dvd release in the uk after 17 yrs.its one of jackies better films for acting but im afraid not for stunts.when making this film he was still suffering from his broken ankle which he got from making rumble in the bronx.and it is clear to see that jackie was stunt doubled in his fight scenes by aaron kwok who was trained by sammo hung.personally i think sammo talked him out of it.if you look carefully jackie done one scene and aaron did the same fight and it was cleverly edited to cover jackie ankle problem.but on the plus side jackie did do the porta cabin stunt where he gets thrown about before jumping out of the window.the fight scene in the japanese arcade is violent and well choreographed but is only spoilt by jackie not doing all his stunts.but im a jackie fan since i first see drunken master and i am not having a go at him just would of preferred him to wait for his ankle to fully get better and then did the film.overall a rare jackie classic overdue for a release.

If you like the action and comedy, along with great stunts that appear in different level within all of Jackies films then you will want to watch this.
His fighting with no weapons or what he finds, and stunts that are more believable then watch this. Generally when you watch his films you will want to look for more.

sadly I had not realised this was a German copy of this film. My son already has a dutch version he cannot understand as not got English subtitles so now he has a German version he cant understand. perhaps clearer description please. However deliver was fairly quick.
