Product Description

Spanish horror sequel in which another outbreak of a deadly infectious virus strikes an unsuspecting group of civilians. It is Koldo (Diego Martin) and Clara (Leticia Dolera)'s wedding day. Everything goes well, with the happy couple revelling in their special day, until an elderly guest who had complained of being bitten by a dog earlier in the day keels over and appears to be dead. However, subsequent events reveal that a fate far worse than death has struck the guest when he awakes and savagely bites his wife, triggering a further outbreak of the rabies-like infection among the wedding party. Amidst the chaos that ensues, Clara and Koldo become separated from one another. Can they find each other and make their escape before one of them becomes infected with the horrifying virus spreading like wildfire through the group?

I loved REC1 and 2, but REC 3 shouldn't have been made for the following reasons:
- The incredibly long (and boring) lead-up before you even reach the movie title screen seems to take half the movie length
- Removing the hand-held camera footage (which was the whole point of "REC" i.e. RECord) and making it a standard movie was incredibly stupid. They may as well have just called it another title and not used "REC" at all.
- Making the movie into an almost Evil Dead style (and not in a good way) stupid horror/comedy again lost the suspense of the two previous movies.
They couldn't even decide if the zombies/demons should shamble or be running super-zombies so they had them do both for no reason whatsoever!
Congratulations on screwing up the series :(

How can one film destroy a fantastic couple of films? I'm not stupid, we've seen it happen with Hellraisers, Elm STreets, etc, but that is usually due to a new team of producers or whatever. This time it's the fault of one of the duo who created the first two classics. And they are classics. It's rare to find films of such power in the last decade or so. They were fast paced, took themselves seriously and actaully used handheld wobblecams to a good effect.
Part 3 whether it's a prequel or whatever is none of the above. The zombie/demons have slowed down to be stumbling almost pitiful creatures who actually stand and stare at you for half an hour before shambling over, the film is almost a comedy in parts even introducing comedy characters to the cast, and the handheld is ditched within the first quarter.
The whole concept of rampaging fast demons from the first two are now undone beceause you won't believe how simple it is for a priest to stop the mass of killings!!!!
The acting is wooden and it seems as if the main characters are not taking it seriously, simply planning what to buy with their wages afterwards. The effects are so-so if you're in a forgiving mood.

What almost saves the film is the final six or so minutes. Is it worth watching for a few minutes of salvage? Ummm.

Had the first two not existed this would still be a ruined opportunity.

The film opens with a wedding and the hand held camera genre. One of the film makers is a professional photographer who has a device to steady his camera. Without this device the camera jerks around making the film "unwatchable." During the reception an unexplained zombie infestation breaks out as uncle swan dives from the balcony. This localized zombie infestation spreads to the wedding party and soon the bride (Leticia Dolera) and groom (Diego Martín) have memories for a lifetime.

These zombies are semi-intelligent, semi-foot dragging, and respond to scripture spoken. Their faces are cover with indelible blood that stays on in a heavy down pour. The film genre has moved from a suspenseful hand held film to a campy bloody zombie slasher complete with the bride toting a chainsaw. Oh the things we do for love. I guess it is what you are into. "Rec" fans will surly hate it while fans of campy zombie films have another one for the marathon.

Parental Guide: F-bombs, implied sex scene, a distant nude scene plus some weird mirror horror nudity. And of course blood, and dismembered body parts approaching Troma style.

This comic horror, love story opens as Koldo [Diego Martín] and Clara [Leticia Dolera] plan, then attend, their wedding at a large country house. When one of the guest ’turns’ due to the virus, mayhem breaks out as everyone runs for their lives. In the slaughter, Koldo and Clara are separated, but each vows to find the other in the chaos surrounding them.
This departs from the first two films and in reality is a stand alone movie [although it plays a part in REC4]. The same plot techniques are in use, viewed through the lens camera work, quarantined by unknown forces outside, murdered, mutilated and terrorised by ‘infected’ guests, but with no knowledge of what the reasoning is.
The disc opens to five very long trailers and then enters main menu offering play, chapters, set up [Spanish 5.1 or 2.0, English subtitles on/off] and extras [preparing a bloody wedding, out-takes, deleted scenes]. One of the deleted scenes actually explains what happens to one group of survivors –something that’s a bit of a loose end when it comes to REC4.
REC3 has a somewhat slow start [especially with the trailers –lose a *], concentrating on the wedding and guests but it does set a relaxed atmosphere which highlights the panic and mayhem when it strikes. Much of the filming is normal camera work and is more a gore fest zombie affair, as the fast moving ‘inflicted’ now mostly shamble zombie–like as though the previous scripts have been forgotten and is somewhat contradictory [lose a *] However it is fast paced and very gory once the action kicks in and becomes an over the top madcap rom-com as the two try to find one another.
