I actually found this quite boring, Also don't buy this expecting a Bruce Willis action movie because he's in the film for like 10 minutes. Dissapointed, watch something else!

You could watch most of this whilst performing brain surgery without fear of being distracted. Despite the credits boasting TWO writers, the screenplay is clunky and the dialogue is cliche when it's not stilted or telegraphing the screenplay's next move. Willis and Weaver are particularly poor. A couple of set pieces are handled very well, there's a descent from the top of a building and a car chase which are thrilling at times but that's about it. Cavill wanders round like a deer caught in the headlights which is fine in the beginning but a hero is supposed to act like one at some stage and he just doesn't really. I walked into this with very low expectations but willing to give it a chance. It's a stinker.

The action thriller genre has been well established long enough for most movie fans to know what to expect before a film of this type even started rolling. Good guys? Check. Bad Guys? Check. Give us a setting, let the players loose, surprise us with a few twists here and there before serving us a satisfying finale. Simple enough formula right? Unfortunately, The Cold Light Of Day seems to have failed in almost every aspect in this simplistic formula to make a decent film.

We have two of Hollywood's biggest names headlining the movie: Willis (who doesn't like Bruce Willis in everything? Although his screen time in this movie is less than 20 minutes long), and Sigourney Weaver, who's fantastic in everthing she does, you'll love her as a villian as much as the only woman who's ever fought an Alien Queen, and kicked that thing halfway across the galaxy. And of course, we have the young and charismatic Henry Cavill leading the film. Every single woman I know swears that they want to marry him and have his children, so, what could possibly go wrong with this movie?

One word: Script.

Scripts for the action thriller genre have been recycled to death, now, I have nothing against recycling good scripts, but for a film that ran for almost 100 minutes, it was quite amazing for me to see just how much time was wasted on repetitive action sequences and recycled dialogues that served nothing to move the story along, and at the end of it, you feel like you've been given these sideline tickets to witness all these chaos and mayhem, but was never really allowed to participate in what was really going on.

A well traveled family has a reunion in Spain. The son, Will (Henry Cavill) is spending a lot of time on his cell phone as he just got a call his company is bankrupt. In spite of the sad violin music, they didn't bother to develop his character at this early point for me to care. Later, his brother Josh (Rafi Gavron), Dara (Emma Hamilton) and mom (Caroline Goodall) are kidnapped and ransomed. We discover Dad, Martin Shaw (Bruce Willis) is in the CIA. He and son Will must find a way to save their family in 24 hours. The kidnappers are demanding the return of a briefcase that Willis doesn't have, one that his case worker Jean Carrack (Sigourney Weaver) has already turned in.

Yes, that would have been a great movie, except Willis doesn't get paid past the first 20 minutes and Cavill has to outrun horses and defeat the bad guys alone. So let's see, he doesn't trust the CIA. The police are after him for a murder he didn't commit. Armed with his dad's cell phone and enlisting the help of some movie eye candy (Verónica Echegui), Will sets out to save his family. Pretty standard stuff and then we get to the expected twist. At this juncture, the movie almost caught my interest, except that Henry Cavill never becomes convincing in this role. Instead of Henry being a stock broker, they should have made him a karate instructor, or an Olympic marksman giving him a skill he could use...No wait! He did use the cell phone.

F-bombs. No sex or nudity. 2 1/2 stars

No, no, no, no, no. Do not purchase this film. If you need to see it wait until it comes back on tv. I saw it tonight, went in with an open mind, not having read any reviews and honestly it is tosh. Bruce Willis is definitely in it for the money. You can see that he's not interested at all. Sigourney Weaver as some kind of US "agent" is walking around mainland Spain shooting people in the street with no concern at all of being identified and imprisoned. Also she's casually wandering around the middle of a shoot out with Israeli agents who are wearing body armour, she's not, yet she's casually moving and firing at all around her!!
Bruce cut the best deal as his involvement ends after about 30 mins. What a waste. Not the best vehicle for Henry Cavill who i thought could be good, just needs to find his niche.

I received this as a birthday present and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. I like action movies and there have been plenty of good ones over the past few years starring Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Nicholas Cage and the usual suspects. Some of them are more memorable than others. This movie is memorable for all the wrong reasons.

The script and acting are appalling. Bruce Willis obviously just took the paycheck and put in a "I really can't be bothered" performance and Sigourney Weaver wasn't much better. The plot is just ridiculous and the whole movie is loosely connected by a series of set-piece action scenes, some mediocre but most fail badly to convince the viewer.

I can't find anything good to say about this movie. Thankfully it's still in excellent condition having only been watched once (and that was more than enough) so it will be going into someone's Christmas stocking this year as a wee bonus. Hopefully they enjoy it more than I did.

Avoid like the plague - 2/10 (and that's only because there are some lovely views of Madrid which helped to pass the time during this dull and extremely boring movie)
