From Amazon.co.uk

Though it's a reboot of a classic slapstick series, The Three Stooges fits right into Peter and Bobby Farrelly's filmography. Throughout their comedies, especially Dumb and Dumber, they've always championed the clueless and clumsy, and that describes this trio perfectly: Moe, Larry, and Curly (Chris Diamantopoulos, Sean Hayes, and Will Sasso, taking over from Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Jim Carrey). In the prologue or first "episode" (two more will follow), an unseen character drops three babies off at a Catholic orphanage. At first, the nuns (Jane Lynch, Jennifer Hudson, and Larry David--yes, Larry David) take delight in the spirited infants with the strange hairstyles, but 10 years later, their antics have worn thin. A well-heeled couple (Stephen Collins and Carly Craig) considers adoption, but things don't work out, so 25 more years pass, during which they become the orphanage's bumbling handymen, which necessitates further head-bonks, nyuk-nyuk-nyuks, and woo-woo-woos. When the threat of closure comes to the only home they've ever known, the boys set out to save the day. This leads them to a wealthy woman (Sofía Vergara), her lover (Craig Bierko), and her father-in-law (Collins), encounters that bring them to the attention of MTV's Jersey Shore, which provides a solution to their dilemma. The Farrellys may have their hearts in the right place, but The Three Stooges ranks as their weakest effort to date. The cast does what they can, but the script is terminally unfunny, and the frenetic direction only drives the point home. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Cinema audiences of the thirties - and for a while beyond - thrilled to the exploits of the three stooges. Three comedians who starred in innumerable short slapstick comedy movies. Involving them getting into various scenarios, messing up, and slapping each other about in the process. Although the line up did change down the years the best remembered one is Moe, angry leader of the trio, Curly, Dimwitted bald sidekick, and Larry. Always caught in the middle of the two.

Tv audiences thrilled to their films as well being used as schedule fillers for years.

Amongst these fans were movie directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who long sought to make a stooges movie to bring the characters back to the big screen. Originally planned to star Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey in the leads, the project appeared to have died for a while. But here it is now. Although with a cast of three lesser known names as the Stooges.

Abandoned at an orphanage when they were babes in arms, Larry, Moe, and Curly grow up to never be adopted , and the banes of the existence of the nuns. Not least Sister Mary Mengele [Larry David]. When the orphanage is threatened with closure, the trio head out into the big world to try and make a fortune and save their home.

They promptly get caught up in a murder plot. But are they, or the would be killers, the ones in the most danger?

Three stooges short films usually ran no more than half an hour. This movie follows that model by dividing itself up into three 'episodes'. Which makes it pretty well paced. The three lead actors are incredible. They recreate the voices and the acting of the original stooges perfectly. Costume and make up get the looks down right as well.

Pretty much what you'd expect from the makers of Dumb and Dumber. It's like they just added a 'Dumbest' to the mix.

Now, in my opinion, the actors portraying the Stooges here are absolutely awesome. They have the timing, the mannerisms, the slaps and eyepokes down pat. It's clear to me that they are Stooges fans. It's just that the whole storyline/plot could have been tighter written and a lot classier. Urinating babies? No, no, no. Please, film makers, stop pandering to the lowest common denominator. Most fans of the Stooges know that the originals had way more class than that. Nuns in skimpy swimsuits are obviously just there for the hell of it.

Having said that, it's watchable. But it could have been a whole lot better if they'd had more of the Stooges just doing their thing.

At the end of the end credits, the movie totally hits a homerun with the inclusion of the Spinners' classic song 'It's A Shame' as sung by Moe Howard and the Stooges (with Jennifer Hudson.)

Not a bad movie, harmless entertainment for a rainy afternoon. Not a patch on the original Three Stooges though.

I grew up a fan of the Stooges. I will acknowledge that they can only be imitated and never duplicate, especially Curly. While I didn't want to enjoy this film, I found myself laughing in the beginning at the first gag when an infant's stooge fingers came out of a sack and "doinked" the nun in the eyes. The young stooges were also a treat as they were able to imitate the famous gags and lines. One had to have some familiarity with the Stooges to catch the humor such as when they tried to revive a nun by gently slapping her (Larry David) on the face and saying "Say a few parables" instead of their normal "Say a few syllables" line. Yes, I thought that was funny. I also enjoyed the the way they used their titles and sign names as puns the way the original Stooges did in their famous lawyers "Dewey Cheatam, and Howe" now used in "Car Talk" gag credits.

There were scenes that worked and some that didn't work. Sean Hayes as Larry was the weakest of the three, perhaps because his head was too thin. There were some lines that they missed. Instead of "Where are your manners?" they should have used "Where's your Emily Post." When Curly spins around on the floor, that needs to be sped up slightly. It doesn't work in real time. The big to-do about Kate Upton in a hot nun's swim suit last about 3 seconds near the end of the film. If you are not a serious Stooge fan, you should wait for the rental.

No f-bombs, sex, or nudity.

The first thing you have to say is that the impersonations each actor does of the original Three Stooges are first rate.

And that could be the issue.

I've enjoyed Something About Mary, Me Myself and Irene, Stuck on You is funny, and the Farrelly's actually made Jack Black make a good film in Shallow Hal.......but this is not funny.

You wait for it to get going and wait, and wait.

There are a few odd laugh out loud moments and my 11 Year Old roared at some of it.

So, yes, after all the years of shock comedy, the Farrelly's have made a kids film.

And to the reviewer who said that the brothers turn up at the end? Those were TWO ACTORS - a typical Farrelly joke on the audience.

Nice try boys, but missed the mark.
